New York, March 10: The major factor in their relationship was laughter. So they wanted to be married by a comedian and they got their wish.

Sitcom character and talk show host Kathy Griffin flew in from Los Angeles to marry New Yorkers Brian Anstey and Elka Shapiro. The two are fans of Griffin and they had asked her to marry them. And she obliged and officiated at their wedding in front of some 100 guests.

Daily News reported that Griffin's 10-minute service was peppered with blue language and X-rated jokes about the couple's sex life.

She also made the bride recite the menu for the reception, the paper reported.

"What did you get for the boring vegetarians and vegans?" Griffin wanted to know. "They're such a pain at these things."

"The request came in, and how could I say no?" Griffin, 47, said.

She joked that she had studied theology for months before being ordained online into the clergy of the Universal Life Church. "Actually, my assistant, Tiffany, applied for the certificate on my behalf, and it took about five minutes," she admitted. "But I love that this couple just want to have fun.

They're my kind of people."

She had to complete additional paperwork to satisfy the State of New York that the marriage was 100 per cent legal.
