Weight has not been such an issue with me as fitness has and is. I've always been meaning to look and feel fitter. The fact that despite being a healthy and conscious eater I could never get rid of the stubborn fat, kind of played on my mind. So after wrapping up the shooting schedules of my serial Sarkar, I had some breathing time on me and decided to make the most of it. I am a staunch believer in yoga. Gym and dieting have never excited me. So I started to look for a good yoga instructor and found one at the Iyengar Institute. I started practicing yoga thrice a week , while I went for long walks for the rest of three days. Yoga is not just about burning calories, like other forms of exercises, but penetrates through your system and massages each and every bone. I can easily say that now I am addicted to it. As you grow older, you are bound to spot ailments and I do see most of my friends running to the doctor for some or the other kind of problem. But I don't have any such problem.
Besides this I also found a good nutritionist in Goa. I think the way you have a doctor, a stylist or a dentist, you also need to have a nutritionist, so that you don't fool yourself into dieting and be unhappy and dissatisfied. I told my dietician Harpreet Pasricha that if you put me off sugar, I would be cheating on you. I can be on the simplest of vegetarian diets but I cannot be off gulab jamuns and chocolates. I thrive on them. But with the help of my dietician I have managed to balance my diet and finally achieved the right shape not just externally but also internally.
The second good thing that happened to me was my first ever-popular film, Jab We Met. It was entirely Imtiaz Ali's decision. Right from when he was writing the script he had asked me to spare some dates when he gets down to do the film. He's a friend so I did it without thinking much. But it turned out to be the most positive movie of the year. People are shocked that I did a role where I had no dialogues and little reel time. But I have always loved my work a lot more than that. Probably because I have a theatre background, just facing the camera and saying a few lines does not mean acting to me. I have had instances in the past where my colleagues have said that they wanted to be projected better than me. I have agreed to that too, showed my back to the camera and still stolen the scene. I still liked my role and am proud to be a part of the whole film.
Though I also experienced a great loss this year, my father in law Vijay Shah passed away and we still haven't been able to deal with it, I guess life has to go on. 2008 is another year, another beginning and new vistas wait to be explored.
