Ludhiana, October 30 The Customs Department today introduced Risk Management System (RMS) for speedy clearance of imported goods.

B. Bhattscharya, Additional Director General Customs, said the system will be operational tomorrow onwards, and will reduce the transaction cost of the department. He added that the department has created a central server connected to all dry ports. Now, importers and exporters can make e-payments from any office all across the country, and also at www.icegate.gov.in.

After the introduction of RMS, the documents submitted by importers and exporters via electronic data interchange (EDI) will be checked by the system. Sandeep Puri, Additional Commissioner Customs, Ludhiana, said RMS facilitates importers who are accredited clients of customs.

So far, 185 importers have been accredited, going by their past record all across the country. RMS details are also available at www.amritsarcustoms. gov.in. Ludhiana is the ninth city where this system has been introduced. By November 2007, the department plans to connect all the dry ports with the Mumbai head office.
