What does 2008 have in store for you?

It’s going to be very busy for me. Six-seven releases are expected; all from good banners and each role is different. There is Mukta Arts’ Hello Darling with Gul Panag, Celina Jaitley and me. It’s a comedy about how three girls change the corrupt atmosphere in a corporate office. I’m also acting in the same banner’s Right Ya Wrong, a romantic comedy where I’m paired with Sunny Deol and Arav Chaudhary. There is Jahnu Barua’s Har Pal, a story of two airhostesses, with Preity Zinta and me in the lead. I have also been offered the lead in Rajshri Films’ next Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi.

Are you going to play a docile north Indian daughter-in-law in Ek Vivah?

I am aware Sooraj Barjatya is known for making certain kind of films. I don’t know too many details about the film, except that it’s a family drama tracing the journey of a couple and their relationship. It will be directed by Kaushik Ghatak. It is a traditional film, but the subject is certainly not outdated.

Are you going in for a change in image?

I’m not looking at any image makeover. I’m a versatile actor and can be good in all kinds of roles. Even though my screen-space in last year’s Salaam-E-Ishq was very small, it was hugely appreciated. I even acted in a film like Darling, where my character was very different from what I have tried before. That’s why I am being chosen for this Rajshri Films’ production, Sooraj liked me in it. I feel there are very few heroines who can act, in true sense of the term.

Who, according to you, can act?

Kareena Kapoor showed some acting prowess in Jab We Met. I also liked Rani Mukerji in Black. I don’t consider any of the rest as actors.

You didn’t have too many good releases in the recent past.

Salaam was crowded and my track was edited ruthlessly. Darling suffered because of the Aag debacle. I didn’t get what I deserved.

Do you hate the item girl tag?

Company happened at a time when I was very young and hardly had any idea of the film industry. I loved to dance so I took up the offer. But I got typecast as an item girl. However, I don’t regret it. I have to be honest and accept the fact that Khallas gave me my house and car.

What happened to Ram Gopal Varma’s Shabri?

It was supposed to release last year, but it was postponed after Aag. It will release after Sarkar Raj releases in May.
