Are you playing the lead in 2008? What is in store for you?
Six-seven releases are expected; all from good banners and each role is different. I have been offered the lead in Rajshri Films’ Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi. There is also Jahnu Barua’s Har Pal, a story of two air hostesses, with Preity Zinta and me in the lead. There is also Mukta Arts’ Hello Darling, with Gul Panag, Celina Jaitley and me. It is a comedy about three girls changing the corrupt atmosphere in a corporate office. I’m also acting in Right Ya Wrong, a romantic comedy where I’m paired with Sunny Deol and Arav Chaudhary.

Are you going to play a docile daughter-in-law in Ek Vivah...?
I am aware Sooraj Barjatya is known for making a certain kind of films. I don’t know too many details about the film, except that it’s a family drama tracing the journey of a couple and their relationship. It will be directed by Kaushik Ghatak. It is a traditional film, but the subject is not outdated.

Are you going in for a change in image?
I’m not looking at any image makeover, I’m a versatile actor. Even though my screen space in last year’s Salaam-E-Ishq was small, it was hugely appreciated. In Darling, my character was very different from what I have tried before. I feel there are very few heroines who can act, in the true sense of the term.

Who, according to you, can act?
Kareena Kapoor showed some acting prowess in Jab We Met. I also liked Rani Mukerji in Black. I don’t consider any of the rest as actors.

You didn’t have too many good releases in the recent past.
Salaam... was crowded and my track was edited ruthlessly. Ram Gopal Varma’s Darling suffered because of the Aag debacle. I didn’t get what I deserved.

Do you hate the item-girl tag?
Company happened at a time when I was very young and hardly had any idea of the film industry. I loved to dance so I took up the offer. But I got typecast. However, I don’t regret it. Khallas gave me my house and car.
