London Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman, who married to Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise at the very beginning of her film career, has said that she was warned that the marriage would ruin her.

However, the 42-year-old actress believes her acting success was boosted by her romance with the 'Top Gun' actor, despite her advisers insisting she was making the wrong decision in tying the knot, reported GQ magazine.

"I became famous very young. I became very famous because I was the wife of somebody. I did a lot of good, worthwhile work in Australia between the ages of 14 and 19 and then I married someone famous. And really, despite the huge profile that brought to me, I was still finding my feet," said Kidman.

The 'Australia' star met Cruise on the set on 'Days of Thunder' and married him at the age of 23 in 1990 because she was hopelessly in love with him.

"My agents at the time were like, 'Do not get married! It will ruin your career!' And I was like, 'But I'm in love!' ," said Kidman.

After 10 years of married life, the couple split and Kidman went on to marry singer Keith Urban, with who she has a 15-month-old daughter Sunday Rose.

Cruise, who has two adopted children with Kidman, has a three-year-old daughter Suri with wife Katie Holmes.
