Nitish says not in touch with non-NDA constituent

Patna Being wooed by the Congress and the Left alike, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today denied he was in talks with any party beyond the constituents of his own NDA, which he claimed will be able to get a majority on its own after the Lok Sabha elections.

"How many times do you expect me to deny that I am in talks with the Left? I have done it more than half a dozen times already. I have neither been approached nor have I reached out to them. I am in touch with only the NDA partners," he told reporters before leaving to address an election rally of the alliance at Ludhiana.

Kumar's statement came close on the heels of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's claim that he was in touch with the Left and would go with them after the polls and CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat reaching out to him.

"JD(U) and NCP have a significant role to play after the elections," Karat had said, suggesting Kumar to break ties with the saffron party. Asked whether Kumar would risk his government in Bihar where he is dependent on BJP for survival, Karat said, "Nitish Kumar has carved out a very strong position in Bihar and independently today he is a major force, so he can strike out. I think... Take the plunge like Naveen Patnaik of BJD has done."

"Nitish Kumar will emerge as a major force in Bihar. So he could do without depending on BJP or any other party. I think it will be in his interest," Karat had said in a TV programme.

Asked how much he thought the NDA would benefit from the TRS showing inclination to join the alliance, Kumar said with the existence of a strong possibility of the NDA emerging as the biggest alliance in a position to form government, more potential allies would be attracted towards it.

Replying to a question he, however, did not completely rule out a scenario in which the NDA is not able to form a government on its own.

"So I am saying it is no use of making predictions about the outcome of elections now. We should wait till the results are out," he said. Kumar refused to take a question about his sharing the dias with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Ludhiana.

Who is secular by Ashok Joshi on 11 May 2009

Is Prakash Karat secular? Remember he has shaken hands with Naveen Patnaik, BJP's longlest ally, who never objected to Gujarat riots. Is Mulayam secular? Remember, he is now a stauch ally of Kalyan Singh, the man who presided over the demolition of the Babri mosque. Is Sharad Pawar Secular? Remember, he has never taken a stand against against Shiv Sena and he is one of the best friends of Bala Saheb. Is Karunanidhi secular? Remember, he served as a BJP ally for six years. The truth is they are all communalists, either Hindu communalists or Muslim communalists. The truth is that secularism is the best way to fool Muslims and to harvest their votes.

True Colours by kumar on 11 May 2009

Nitish's sharing of dias with Narendra Modi and his ilk has completely and quite clearly shown his true colors. The chamleon that he is, has been brought out by the fact that after the elections in Bihar were over and with no fear of antagonising the minorities in any way his public posturing needs no votes at least for next 2-3 years if not 5 years. All the tall talks of being against communalism is sheer opportunism for Nitish to stay in the seat of CM. Did he resign when the Gujarat riots broke out? Has he said one word against Advani who led the mobs to demolish an old and dilapidated structure which incidentally was a mosque. Kudos to dual personalities like Nitish for fooling the gullible masses of this country for it's people deserve no better than idiots like you.

We are being taken for a ride!!!! by Gourav Gupta on 10 May 2009

This was a clear tactics of UPA and its erstwhile allies to confuse the voters of India. It was sad that NDA fell into the trap. Everytime Nitish had to claim to support NDA, UPA got a bunch of converted voters... And boy NDA definitely beat Congress in these kinds of politics..And thanks for taking us all for a ride....

Nitish the great by Feroz on 10 May 2009

Nitish today gave a tight slap to Media,Rahul and Left parties.

your problem is that you do not identify yourself first as an Indian - Mr. Naim by arun Kumar on 10 May 2009

See the mentality of Indian news readers on DD News - They were calling BARAK Hussein OBAMA, with stress on "Hussein".Even in entier Muslim world he was just Barak Obama. You and Muslims like you are good for nothing except lip service in name of religion and community. BARAK OBAMA is first an American are u first an Indian or Muslim?

Not a very wise embrace Mr. Nitish by Naim Naqvi on 10 May 2009

That he is socialist by heart and opportunist by deed was a well known fact. However, by joining hands on the open platform with the monster of Gujrat he has told indirectly to minorites that he cares two hoots for their feelings. Fair game Mr. Nitish. Those who are watching your somesaults are amused at your temerity today. Your audicious clinch of Mody will cost your dear in political life in times to come. Learn a lesson from Congress' total extermination from U.P. politics. Some sermons are not written in stone but are equally prophetic. It took five years' hard work work to build your immage. It took few seconds to destroy it for ever. You did cross the threshold today that many of your well wishers were expecting you to avoid. Most probably you have already begun to believe that NDA would win the election. Even in the worst scenario if NDA performs little better it would never be able to form the government at the center. Your options are narrowing down in Bihar also.

It is a wisable choice by raj on 10 May 2009

If he will not join NDA then to whom he will join..you may say UPA.Who is leading UPA.congress who is the killer of more than 3000 sikhs, is 3 times more than gujrat riots.is sikh is not minor.why u ppl always tell about gujrat.see the congress history worse than Gujrat

Nitish by Krishnan on 10 May 2009

Naim Naqvi,Atleast Nithish condemned Godhra but not genocide of Hindus in Kashmir. Raise above your religion and be an Indian. Do some jsutice to your mother country.

Politics of Opportunism by Aniyan on 10 May 2009

Shame on you Karat and Rahul. Karat was speaking with confidence of establishing contacts with Nitish and Rahul was certifying integrity of Nitish, in addition to weeding out two of most seniormost congress leaders from the central responsibilities. Remember, a person of 5 years experience in Congress is expelling the 35 years experienced senior leaders !!! Had there been any discipline in Congress, it should have issued show cause notice to Rahul as to why he spoke against the alliance 'Dharma' - keeping Karunanidhi in fold and trying to court Jayalalitha. Retaining own govt in AP and campaigning against TDP and TRS; and back in Delhi requesting their friendship; keeping Lalu and Paswar in UPA and court for their opponent Nitish in Bihar. What type of politics is this? For a pretty two months, both mom and baby talked and talked of Khandahar plane hijack. Atlast, when realized that it is backfiring as it helped release of 168 Indians, now silent !! Is this politics??

The Problem by Amit Purohit on 10 May 2009

This is the problem of myopic minoritism. If this is the case majority Hindus were against Gandhi for his utterances that let Muslims live here and still are as you want the things to be paved as you wish.Better go to Pakistan. All imad's, khan's, Owesi's, and so on know better than what he knows and says about himself.

No smoke without fire by imdad gilani on 10 May 2009

This is tru that Nithish initiated a lot of development works but question is why he is being asked so many time the same quetion it is also true he remains with Bjp under compulsion and as soon as he get right time to get rid from the BJP he would cretainly do this at the movement he keeps mum till the resul comes

singh by jayanti on 10 May 2009

Nitish kumar is an astute leader. He isendowed with great political acumen. He is aware of evil design of the Congress or the Left.HE has rightly spurned their overture and raised his political profile too high by reiterating his total faith in NDA.Today he stands on high moral ground. It is to be remembered that disloyalty or unfaithfulness does not pay inany sphere of life not to speak of politics.

History repeats itself by Swapan Chakravarthy on 10 May 2009

In 1967 when political horse trading began, the UF Government of Ajoy Mukherjee was brought down by the Congress Government of Indira Gandhi at the Centre. Bengal was lost since that day for the Congress and CPM has had a stranglehold on every aspect of citizen's life. Come 2008 and the issue of approving 123-Agreement comes around. CPM walk out (and regretted taking the decision despite all bravado) and Congress spent a booty to retain power. The lessons learnt: every one knows their capital worth as well as the worth of their morality. The latter has become zero or at best a redundant element for any consideration. So Rahul Gandhi beaming a smile and praising the ones he needs, or left cohorting with oppurtunism should not come as a surprise for anyone. Patriotism now remains a part of songs such as "Jay Ho!" but true meaning is to mouthing "nasty and unparliamentary" language. I can only hope that we do not go towards "economic slavery" once more.

Karat by reader on 10 May 2009

Karat is trying to fish and he wont succeed anywhere as his party will be wiped out in this elections. He will be lucky if he can get 20 seats and if he wants to make a government with this number and try desperately to protect his corrupt party secretaries and members, he wont succeed. This guy who smiles desperately will be in the dustbins after 16th may 2009.

Nitish will back dirty politics of BJP. by DR. PETROL PUMP CHOR on 10 May 2009

Nitish Kumar has overtaken the role of George Fernandes. He will support BJP to spoil our Hindu reputation in the entire world. Nitish Kumar knows for a fact, that BJP is a political wing of VHP, Bajrang Dal etc. By joing BJP Nitish Kumar will be backing a party whose agenda is to divide and destroy India on the base of caste and religion. Because of BJP fingers are being pointed on our Hindu Dharma because the way it is being represented by them . I sincerly wish that Nitish Kumar will not join hands with the communal BJP.

Nitish and Left/Cong by jks on 10 May 2009

Nitish has been a trustworthy person and an ally to NDA. He will never damage his reputation and lose the credibility of people of Bihar who have trusted him. His first priority is Bihar and if he leaves NDA Lalu or the congressies will come to power in BIhar who has ruined Bihar for many years. The same Congress lobby who used to say about Laloo "He is the best for Bihar" is trying to play a new game with Nitish and the Biharies. Moily used to be the one who used to always praise Laloo and now he says..Nithish is in NDA and so he is not happy with him. Idiot Moily does not remember that Nitish is responsible to the people of Bihar and not the chamchas of Sonia Gandhi, like Moily himself. Nitish is being polite by not snubbing Moily and others...but soon these Idiots will be shown their original place.
