For years, blocks of cheese rolled out of Poshtik Milk Products have made their way to fast-food chains like Pizza Express and popular food joints like Big Chill. But for the first time the cheese-manufacturing unit, set up by veterinarian and nutritionist Umesh Batra, has gone into retail. Apart from 12 varieties of cheese, the store also has cheese flavoured with garlic, onion and cumin. At Rs 255 for 200 g, Parmesan makes for the costliest buy at this store — and for good reason, it would seem. “We store it below 10 degree Celsius for over 18 months before the cheese acquires the required texture and taste,” says Batra. Onion and coriander feta and feta with whole olives cost Rs 250 for 200 g. Smoked cheddar is priced at Rs 165 for 200 g while Gouda with cumin flavour comes for Rs 165 for 200 g. You can also place an order for sour cream and get a pack of 200 grams for Rs 85. Anyway, next time you dig into your lasagna, you know where your cheese is coming from.
