Hillary clinton

Washington Ruling out any arm-twisting to Pakistani leaders to put their house in order, US officials on Tuesday insisted that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had offered them friendly advice to resolve their differences through dialogue and non-violent means during her telephonic talks.

Clinton had called Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Opposition leader Nawaz Sharif on Saturday in a last minute US effort to save the country from the brink of an imminent political turmoil.

However, it was speculated that Clinton told Zardari and Sharif that there was pressure on the Obama Administration from the US Congress and Congressional leaders that in the case of continued political turmoil, it would be difficult for the lawmakers to approve financial aid to Pakistan.

"I think, Secretary Clinton during her conversation (with the leaders) told them about the concerns being raised by many in the Congress about the situation in Pakistan and said that many of them may not be inclined to support further aid to the country," a US official, familiar with the conversation, said on condition of anonymity.

"That's reality. Secretary's friendly advice to Pakistanis was to take steps to control the situation," the official said.

State Department spokesman said, "So this was basically decisions made by Pakistanis for Pakistanis. They deserve all the credit."

Wood said the US has insisted upon Pakistani leadership on the need to have political dialogue and reconciliation. Peaceful assembly is important.

"We want to see that happen. But in the end, these were decisions that were taken by the Pakistani leadership, and I think it's important to recognise that. And only the Pakistanis could bring themselves back from the brink.

This is not anything the United States could have done," Wood said.

Political Asylum in the US by palkodimir on 21 Mar 2009

Nothing to get surprised Mr Chanakiya, if Osama bin Laden is given political asylum in the US .Orlando Bosch one of the most notorious anti-Castro terrorist( accused master mind behind the bombing of Cuban airliner in 1976, which killed 73 innocent people) was given protection in the US. The list of terrorists-in-residence in the US included Emmanuel Constant from Haiti, known as Toto, a former paramilitary leaderfrom Duvalier era . Constant was responsible for carrying out some of the worst state terror in the 1990s. He was living in the US, comfortably, because he was a good friend of American political Admin. The USA refused Haiti’s request for extradition. Only USA can do it, if Afghanistan does, the US can go to war. America’s Monro Doctrine declared that NO CHALLENGE TO US DOMINANCE WOULD BE TOLERATED IN THE WORLD.

The Rogue State of the World by palkodimir on 18 Mar 2009

Normally the exact opposite is always true in the case of the world’s Rogue. When they said Saddam had Weapons of Mass Destruction, hence he had to be killed, the Americans cheated the world and twisted the hands of the Security Council to ascertain their roguishness. Now the new secretary, a born-again liar says, we never twisted Pakistan's arms. In the entire 62 years of Pakistan's history, American have been having their way in Pakistani affairs, quite often against Indian interests, either by bribing the Military Guys by millions and or the politicians or simply by twisting the arms of people like Musharaf ( had he not supported USA against Iraq, he would have had the fate of Saddam also. It is unfortunate that the rivalry between the politicians, the army and the Secret Services have contributed to the destruction of democracy in Pakistan)as we practise( with our own flaws) in India. How much of arm twisting is there by Americans in India? Any revealers from our former RAW spies

No arm twisting ??? by chanakya on 17 Mar 2009

Interesting. But will US be able to digest some more decisions of Pak leaders in favour of peace in the sub continent. They may want to grant asylum to Osama and other valiant fighters and may want to stay out of Kashmir for ever so on. It will be too childish to make world believe that Mr.Zardari has acted on his own suicidal decision with out being presurised by others.
