Mumbai, March 10 The Bombay High Court on Monday rejected the bail plea of constable Sunil More, convicted for raping a teenager in 2005, on the grounds that it was not a case for granting bail.

According to More’s lawyer Prakash Wagh, a division bench of Justice SB Mhase and Justice VK Tahilramani has asked him to move for bail when the final hearing of More’s appeal against conviction comes up for hearing.

Wagh had argued that More has already spent almost three years in jail and hence bail should be granted. According to Wagh, the application also cites medical tests, DNA and contradiction in evidence as grounds for the bail. An appeal against his conviction too is pending before the court.

More was awarded 12 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 by the city civil and sessions court for raping a teenager inside Marine Drive police chowkie in 2005. Following the HC order for speedy trial, the sessions court convicted More in less than a year after the infamous incident.
