S Y Quraishi

New Delhi In the wake of reports quoting Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi saying that the Lok Sabha elections would be held between April 8 and May 15, the Commission said on Wednesday no date has been finalised so far.

"The EC has not met so far to decide any dates for general elections. Any story quoting the dates has no authenticity," an EC spokesman said.

"We, in the Election Commission, have not yet discussed the final dates, but it will be held between April 8 and May 15," Quraishi had said after delivering a lecture on 'J and K Elections 2008', at the India House in London last evening.

The term of the 14th Lok Sabha expires in May and announcement of the poll schedule is expected soon.

Why fuss about LS election date? by Someone on 29 Jan 2009

Why should EC go back and forth about the election dates? Why can't we have fixed dates of election like the US? That will make the life more predictable for everyone and election management easy.

Cost Cutting for Elections too by Acer Right on 28 Jan 2009

The article did not highlighted the recommended budget for holding the elections. I think this season, when everyone is cuttin down on cost, the similar principle shall be applied in the elections too. As I understand, elections in India is the costliest one in the world, as ours is not only the largest democracy in the world, but our political leaders also spend generously during their election campaigns. Our EC need to put some tough guideline in this regard.

Congratulations EC FOR TELLING THE TRUTH TO POLITICAL PARTIES. by dv sharma on 28 Jan 2009

It's really matter of highest credibility and responsibility that Election Commission is doing without any pressure of POLITICAL PARTIES. So the world praises Indian democracy.
