Ludhiana, January 24 The new general house was formed more than five months ago but the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has yet to float tenders to carry out various developmental works in the city.

Reason: Unless mayor catergorises wards into outer or inner wards, councillors cannot carry out any work in their respective areas. After the de-limitation process, the demarcation of the outer and inner wards had changed and hence new list had to be made.

The councillors, most of them from the Congress, allege that they are still waiting for the development works to start though they are ready with the estimates of various projects.

This year Rs 35 lakh has been allotted for the councillors of inner wards while Rs 50 lakh for the outer wards. This is annual fund for development works to be carried out in the city.

Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura, when contacted, said, “We have worked out the details of outer and inner wards and within a day or two the entire situation will be clear.”

Talking about the delay in carrying out works, he said, “There is hardly any work to be done in the inner wards. The areas are well equipped and development will continue for the next five years. Hence, it doesn’t make much of a difference if it (work) starts a few months later.”

He added, “The tenders will be called soon and we have no dearth of money for development works. In many wards I have even allotted up to a crore of rupees for a year depending on the nature of work. This is irrespective of the party. In ward number 27, Congress Councillor Hem Raj Aggarwal has been given Rs 1 crore because his ward needs that much of money. Same is the case with the ward of Deputy Mayor Sunita Aggarwal and a few other wards as well.”

However, Gurpreet Gogi, Congress Councillor said, “I am ready with estimates of wide sewer line and many other projects in my ward, but waiting for the tenders to be floated. More than five months have passed and we have to do our works on annual basis and not five yearly basis.”
