Chandigarh, February 17 While the UT Administration claims that Chandigarh matches any big city when it comes to being tech-savvy, not a single office in the city’s four technical colleges has the facility of e-mail. The information has been provided by the Department of Technical Education in response to an RTI application.

None of the principals of the colleges has an official e-mail address and official communication takes place only on paper.

Hemant Goswami of the Burning Brain Society had sought the information from Directorate of Technical Education, Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Government Polytechnic for Women, Industrial Technical Institute and Government Central Craft Institute.

According to the CCET’s reply, none of the institutes has an official e-mail address. CCET, however, states that it pays an annual Rs 8 lakh for internet. “No office correspondence has been sent through e-mail so far,” states the reply.

The Government Polytechnic for Women states, “None of the officials in this institute has an e-mail address of his own for official purposes”. The polytechnic pays Rs 38,000 annually for internet.
