Washington There is no evidence to substantiate Pakistan's claims that India is supporting Baloch rebels, a US think tank has observed, cautioning that New Delhi might consider this option if Islamabad fails to act against LeT, responsible for the Mumbai terror attack.

Over the past five years, Pakistan has accused India of aiding Baloch insurgent groups through its consulates in Afghanistan, but has not provided any evidence, Center for International Policy, a Washington-based think tank observed in its report.

The report, "Pakistan: The State of the Union," concluded that Pakistan's charges have lacked credibility as Baloch rebels have fought with ineffectual small arms.

"They say this weaponry has been purchased on the black-market, with funding from Baloch compatriots in Dubai and other Persian Gulf states.

"Should India in fact, decide to give the Baloch large-scale sophisticated weaponry, logistic help and funds, they could rapidly expand their present force of 4,500 fighters drawing on the large number of Baloch educated unemployed," Selig S Harrison, director, Asia Program of the think tank said in the report.

India might seriously consider the option of supporting the separatist Baloch and Sindh movements of Pakistan, if Islamabad does not take decisive action against LeT, an option it has resisted so far, it said.

Harrison cautioned Pakistan that of late there has been an increasing effort on the part of Baloch and Sindh insurgents to seek military help from India, which New Delhi has so far avoided.

But this policy of non-interference in Pakistan by India could change in the future, if Islamabad fails to dismantle and disarm LeT and other terrorist organisations who have carried out terrorist attacks inside India, the report said.

"Relations between India and Pakistan have sharply deteriorated since Mumbai terrorist attacks. As Indian anger grows, so does the view that India should support Baloch and Sindhi separatism, either as an alternative to full-scale military retaliation against Pakistan or as a key part of a two-front military strategy," the report said.

Until now New Delhi has rejected Baloch and Sindhi separatists' appeals and the consensus in India has been that a stable Pakistan is in the Indian interest, it said.

But Indian support for separatists in Pakistan will grow, Harrison predicted, unless Islamabad disarms Lashkar-e-Taiba and other jihadis based in Pakistan.

"As an alternative, it would avoid the risk of a direct military encounter that could escalate to the nuclear level and lead to an exodus of foreign investment.

"As part of a two-front strategy, Indian support for Baloch and Sindhi insurgents would keep substantial Pakistani force tied down on the long Sind frontier while others face Indian forces in Kashmir, or the Punjab, or both," Harrison said.

India should support the separatist Baloch and Sindh movements of Pakistan by Sudhir Kumbhar on 09 Sep 2009

India should consider this option to pressurize Pakistan to act against the terrorist communities like LeT, Jaish e Mohammad etc.Past six dacades, Pakistan contineously putting its efforts to bleed India with Proxy War strategy. Now its time to do something similar to what pakistan is doing. The last two paragraphs of the above article make the picture much clearer why should India support the separatist Baloch and Sindh movements of Pakistan.

Concerned persons should join together and raise public opinion by Hary Nambiar on 30 May 2009

KS, international diplomatic efforts are mainly focused in (1) winning weapon contracts (2) gaining access to investment opportunities to take advantage of fiscal concessions, cheap labor and to monopolize markets and (3) to gain access to raw materials and (4) to sandwich developing countries as a wedge in their quarrels. Laws against corruption and bribery are strict everywhere, but it is not the governments who do the dirty work, but the business conglomerates. Most leaders in the developing countries are corrupt and they have ways to keep their black money secretly and safely in developed countries. Caring people should join together and raise public opinion to make sure that these leaders do not make wars. Arms race only leads to catastrophe. I am sure people of India want to coexist with the people of Pakistan. I hope the people of Pakistan want the same.

A Failed State by rajiv on 28 May 2009

Pakistan will disintegrate in 5 to 7 years, either way its not a comfortable situation for India. The advantage will be weaker states, and hopefully their nuclear weapons seized by the US.One of the main interests of the US presence in Afghanistan is the energy deposits in Central Asia, but what the press has overlooked both in South Asia and the US, is BALOCHISTAN......a warm water port built by the Chinese and a state rich in all kinds of energy deposits.Pakistan has a surprise coming their terror partner/friend will take over Balochistan when it disintegrates. For all you know the US might cause Pakistan to break up into little pieces.

No evidence that India aiding Pakistan Baloch rebels .... by M Krishnamachary on 28 May 2009

Pakistan made missiles Ghazni and Ghauri. Now they are making Tughlak too one should imagine. It is very difficult to irritate India. India has a long history of tolerance. All religions exist side by side. There is not much of discord except what some crank or other perpetrates. Notwithstanding that fact, a Jinnah who ought to know better, imagined that the Muslims of India need a home land. Had Pakistan been a flourishing country , the muslims in India would have migrated there. Instead , what the entire world sees is a sick state of Pakistan with outdated and mind boggling religious taboos. If parts of it want to be different, perhaps it is right. Slavery and freedom can not co-exist.

When it breaks up, they will sneak into and inundate Indian cities by Hary Nambiar on 27 May 2009

A break up of Pakistan is eventually a possibility. The sparsely populated Baluchistan has plenty of energy deposits. Baluch people also live in Iran and Afghanistan. They could sustain themselves as a separate nation. Sindh is self sufficient in agriculture and has highly developed infrastructure and multi ethnic, but Muslim population. The Pashtoon people have aspirations of their own nationhood. None of the provinces likes Punjabi domination. However, do not be misguided by “think-tank” reports. Pakistan is a sovereign nation. It is neither diplomatic nor in the best interests of a sovereign nation to meddle in the territorial integrity of another sovereign nation. Even after break up they will join together against India. Besides, when the nation breaks up and economy crumbles, all of them will sneak through the border and inundate India’s overwhelming cities.
