Kolkata, April 21 Videocon-owned Kitchen Appliances, located at Salt Lake, whose warehouse caught fire on April 19 did not get no objection certificate from the state fire department. This was revealed by Pratim Chatterjee, minister for fire, after a meeting with officials of the company who came to Writers’ Building to apprise the government of the status of fire fighting system in the factory.

Though the fire damaged the warehouse it did not affect the mother plant.

“The company did not get a NOC from us for the warehouse which they purchased from Philips. They said they wanted to set up a IT park there and for that we gave them a provisional certificate. Now they admitted that. We have told them that they will have to build a strong fire fighting system there. In fact we have told all the big companies at Sector 5 at Salt Lake to do similar thing,” the minister said.

He also said that that the state government was going to set up more fire stations at Salt Lake and Rajarhat.

Meanwhile Videocon officials said they came to apprise the state government of the kind of fire fighting system they had now. “Videocon is a leader in TV and other products and we will have to have number one fire fighting system at our factory,” Gautam Sengupta, Vice-president, of Kitchen Appliances, said after the meeting.
