Lahore, January 16: Its goodbye to the many lazy afternoons that love-struck college-goers spent at the famous ‘Love Garden’ of this cultural capital of Pakistan. Their university has banned their entry into the famous hotspot.

The Government College University, known for its academic performance, banned the gathering of male and female students at the garden following complaints of "love affairs".

The decision has come as a big blow to the couples whose hangout options in the city are, in any case, as good as non-existent.

"The students should focus on studies as their parents have sent them to the institution to study and not for any social interaction," University Registrar Sahibzada Faisal Khurshid was quoted as saying by the Daily Times.

Anjum, a student at the University, said: "Often couples found sitting in the garden are insulted and warnings are issued to them."

Asim, another student, complained that the varsity administration's strict rules do not encourage free interaction between men and women even on the campus.

Even as Cupid struck many a student in this famous garden, the haunt has also been used for more productive exercises.

Several works of art and literature produced by university students over the years took birth in the Love Garden.

According to the registrar, the decision to ban the entry of couples was taken following a series of complaints about "love affairs".

However, there is a glimmer of hope that the ban may be lifted as some teachers do not agree with it and feel it is unfair. Till then the groovy haunt will be missed by many.
