No one can shake BJP's faith in Lord Ram: Rajnath

Nagpur Raking up the Ayodhya issue ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, BJP chief Rajnath Singh declared on Saturday that nobody could shake the party's faith in Lord Ram, for whom a magnificent temple will be built at Ayodhya.

"Jahan tak Ram Janambhoomi ka sawal hai, koi ma ka lal Bhagwan Ram me hamari aastha aur nishta ko diga nahi sakta (No one can shake BJP's faith and reverence to Lord Ram)," he said in his inaugural speech at the two-day National Council meeting that began on Saturday.

Rajnath's statement led to chants of "Jai Shri Ram" from several of the assembled gathering consisting of thousands of party leaders and workers.

The BJP had kept its pet issues like Ayodhya, Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and Uniform Civil Code on a backburner when it came to power in 1998 and tied up a coalition.

He lamented that during the last five years the Congress-led coalition at the Centre had failed to spare "even five minutes" for initiating dialogue to resolve the Ram Janambhoomi issue.

He said if the party comes to power it would work towards an effective solution of the vexed issue and could even set up a fast-track court and could take other measures after taking allies into confidence.

"The day BJP will get a clear majority we will, if necessary, bring a law on the issue," he said.

This is for the first time in the campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election that the BJP has raised the Ayodhya issue. At the national executive meeting yesterday, Rajnath had steered clear of all contentious issues including Ayodhya, Article 370, and Uniform Civil Code.

BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani was present on the dais along with several party leaders and chief ministers when Rajnath made his speech.

Accusing the Congress-led Central government of not making any direct or indirect effort to resolve the issue, Rajnath regretted that on the Ram Sethu issue the government had denied the very existence of Lord Ram.

"During the tenure of this government the kind of contempt that has been displayed towards our cultural symbols, has perhaps never taken place throughout our history," he said.

He wanted the government to come out of the "colonial mindset".

The BJP president also accused the government of minority appeasement and alleged that one Indian minister wanted "grant of citizenship to Bangladeshi infiltrators" while another one had declared a banned SIMI as a "cultural organisation".

Ram Naam by BJP by Sunil Maingi on 08 Feb 2009

The BJP goes into Ram's Sharan only at the time of elections. When they were in power, what did they do about the temple, article 370 and uniform civil code. Due to their non performance as a government they were booted out by the people. Now again they are taking Ram Naam and fooling the public. Is this because of lack of issues or very public infighting in the party. May be they want to divert public attention from the Taliban like moral policing in Karnataka, which the chief minister also endorses. The very senior citizens who are the top office bearers of BJP should now retire and let progressive youngsters (if there are any in the party), come forward with new ideas instead of raking up the very issues which were buried by themselves only, when they were in power for a full term

Hindus are not fools when BJP promises Ram temple at Ayodhya. They were in power in one full term with promise of Ram Temple; then they were busy collecting

4 d sake of india, congress must lose by srikanth on 08 Feb 2009

I dont say that bjp is doing rite by invoking religious sentiments, bt compared to the caste based divide n rule policy of congress.... its a 1000 times better. but y is tat no1 raises a hue n cry when congress plays d communal card?...when ever d vote bank needs to be strengthened, a few new castes get reservation. y all d devout followers of Gandhi in congress turn a blind eye to d fact tat Gandhi and Nehru were against it. y even Ambedkar intended it to be only a temporary fix. And all this based on a lie by the britishers. It is true however that there was a brief period of discrimination some 50-100 yrs and its very regrettable, its no small duration by any means, but brief wen compared to these polititians' claim of 1000's of yrs or since antiquity. but d so called upper castes wer no party 2 d conspiracy of d british. they r also victims more so now than ever. u dont need to believe me, but you can check d facts urself. not temple development required by Vinod on 08 Feb 2009

BJP want to create another communal voilance india by anounsing rama temple issue. We indians expect developments instead of rama temple. Can BJP do this, then we elect BJP

Bad Junta party by raj on 08 Feb 2009

Yes go ahead and build temples and dont allow dalits and low caste hindus inside it. Indian politics is at its lowest level.

Poors don't want Temple by Amresh on 08 Feb 2009

Only rich have luxury of discussing temple or such things. Majority of India lives below poverty line and is not able to arrange food for 2 times a day. Education and health care are distant dream for them. These leader don't represent our majority(poor india). Instead they represent rich and affluent people. For poors, the real issues are eradicating poverty, electricity, water, roads, healthcare, education etc. I propose, we should dismantle all religious institution in india(be it temple, mosque) and instead build schools, hospitals on those lands.

Advani Vs. Rajnath Singh by Indian on 08 Feb 2009

Advani talks of development and security in his website but Rajnath Singh wants to build a Ram Temple. Please let us know the real agenda of BJP if it comes to power??? Will Advani be hijaked by all these Vanara Senas

Self Destruction by sushil on 08 Feb 2009

There is no need to shake their faith and nobody is questioning also. They themselves are shaking. Please for heavensake do not play religious card again. If you have the Guts fight on the development, peace and bringing people todgether instead of dividing. I am sure if BJP would have invested their time and brain on this they would have easily come to the power long back. If they carry on to play this communal card they will destroy themselves.

Thank god by Seema on 08 Feb 2009

I will vote only for those who will build Shri Ram Mandir and talk about Hindu's rights. That Babri Qila was an encroachment which was, as Kalyan Singh called it, a symbol of disgrace and it got what it deserved.

Ram Mandir by Peshori Ahuja on 08 Feb 2009

We fully agree with Ravi.BJP deserves to wind but not in the name of Ram; no misuse of RAM NAAM>

BJP and Ram by J.M.Manchanda on 08 Feb 2009

Come elections and BJP begins to utter Ram, Ram. Its faith in Ram is closely linked to its desire to capture power and it had no difficulty in putting the temple building on the backburner in order to remain in power. Therefore Rajnath Singh should qualify his statement by saying that only compulsions of power-sharing can shake its faith in Ram.

No one can shake BJP's faith in Lord Ram: Rajnath by Ratan Gupta on 08 Feb 2009

First decide where and when Ram actually born or a mythological figure. Mosque is an historical factor. Case closed. There is no such thing hindu culture. Hindu word is actually given by Muslims. Before, we were marwaris, rajpuths, jains, thakurs, lodhas etc...

BJP would lose election becuase of this by kalyan on 08 Feb 2009

BJP would lose election because of this, i respect all the good work done by BJP during NDA time. Things like this and Mangalore incident will push BJP towards defeat in General election. BJP should focus on Development and how they will move India into economic development rather than these petty things. Somebody is misguiding them.

true side of progress by harun on 08 Feb 2009

guys like gopal who write on the web owe it to the vision of rajiv gandhi and not the yatra of advani, reading these blogs its obvious that pakistan need not feel lost.they have those who are illterate who carry the gun and blow others up because the leadership fed them that bullshit.to see the so called progressive forces of growth and claims of becoming a superpower by backing SENILE BANKRUPT POLITICIANS who have nothing to offer after having sown seeds of violence and discontent 17years back the radicals are out in the open. The blogs calling them NATIONALIST is all the more apalling. Some write of the golden days of VAJPAYEE.The man was decent, but had the sarovar dam built, the IT sector created, the ECONOMIC POLICIES which fuelled growth for 17 years laid. Its for the WEST to now understand that that all that talk of democracy and all equal which these guys claim are fabricated.Like the pakis rights in the west must be limited the same be applied to those who support such zealots.

BJP and Rama temple by Ramachandran on 08 Feb 2009

It is pathetic that Mr Rajnath Singh and BJP brought the dormant issue Rama and his temple as preelection vote catcher they are a party of having no real policy for 21st centuary India. If BJPs policy makers think that majority loose any sleep over this issue they are really a sad lot

"No one can shake BJP's faith in Lord Ram" says Rajnath.Sir, Mr Vajpayee is on ventilator not -----------

Ram mandir by Raghu on 08 Feb 2009

I support the BJP and I want them to win. However here are my thoughts. In most BJP ruled states, they are coming back t power as they are true patriots and want development of our country irrespective of caste religion etc. They are doing a good job of development. Congress, communists have divided this country with selective appeasement and in turn blame the BJP as communal. BJP should come out with a great developmental agenda s that it positively impacts all citizens. Ram mandir and other sensitive issues should be currently put on the back burner. They should be taken up only when they get a full majority. As ravi has noted, only development has to be the issue. They have to come out with concrete action plan to solve corruption, terrorism, bring in a fair judiciary etc. Also they have to be careful about the anti national/terrorsit supporting congress, SP, DMK, etc parties which want to screw our country.

SOME SENSE by INDIAN on 08 Feb 2009

IF THIS MAN RAJNATH SING WANTS TO SERVE THE COUNTRY FOR ECONOMICS AND DEVELOPMENT LET HIM CONTINUE THE POST, OR, ELSE LET HIM QUIT THE POST AND BECOME A SANYASI. IF HE IS FIT FOR NOTHING SEND HIM TO CHINA OR RUSSIA.THANKS.

Ram Mandir by Popal Das on 08 Feb 2009

The secular babas of Congress/UPA had 4 full years to solve the issue and thus bring Muslims and Hindus together! Fact: not even 1 second they tried to do this. Conclusion: it is in UPA/Congress interest that this problem not be solved. And when BJP will try to solve it, UPA/Congress will put oil on fire and instigate the Muslims and the secular babas to block a solution. Sonia/Manmohan/Secular Babas just cannot stand the idea of a Ram Mandir. They rejected the existence of Lord Ram and have partially destroyed the Ram Setu.
