Ludhiana, May 15 After Zila Parishad and Block Samiti polls, the stage is set for the Panchayat elections in the state. The government is giving sops in the form of uninterrupted power supply in villages while urban consumers are bearing the brunt.

The panchayat elections are scheduled to be held on May 26.

These days the domestic rural consumers are getting power supply up to 18 hours a day as against 8 to 10 hours supply. However, the cuts in urban areas have increased from four hours to six hours every day. The rural consumers are having a gala time since May 1, 2008, first it was Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections and now upcoming panchayat polls.

Sources revealed that as per the availability of power, the supply in villages for Block Samiti and Zila Parishad was increased by about three hours ahead of the polls. But now the elections are only for rural areas and hence focus is more on rural domestic areas, revealed PSEB sources.

Meanwhile, power cuts in the city have been increased for the last four days with cuts being witnessed during the nights as well.

Villages will continue to get better supply till the end of this month while the tubewell supply in villages is between 4 to 5 hours.
