Mumbai, January 27: Hindutva poster boy and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi has emerged as a rallying point for all the BJP leaders following his outstanding performance in the Gujarat Assembly elections, but state leaders feel that he still has a long way to go to become a national leader.

However, the party, which is trying to brand Narendra Modi as the new Hindutva mascot, does not mince any words to laud his performance and feels it would be stretching things too far to think that Modi could emerge as a national leader at this point of time.

"The next Lok Sabha election will be contested under L K Advani's leadership. Advani is our candidate for Prime Minister," a senior BJP leader said.

"There is no question of Modi becoming Prime Minister despite his victory in Gujarat election," he said.

His recent rally in Mumbai was successful and the state BJP leaders gave an indication that the Gujarat pattern could be duplicated in Maharashtra for the 2009 Assembly elections.

"Modi's popularity has increased after the Gujarat elections. So Modi will continue to campaign in Maharashtra and other states," BJP senior leader said.

Despite the airing of Tehelka tapes just on the eve of elections, and issues like the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, opposition from Rashtriya Swayavsevak Sangh (RSS) cropping up besides the anti-Modi campaign unleashed by the Congress, Modi stunned his detractors and fuelled speculations that he could soon become a national face of BJP.

"Modi certainly has good future in national politics. But he will complete five years term as CM of Gujarat," he said.

Party workers want Modi to campaign across the country in view of his clean image and charisma, he added.

Modi by Gopal on 28 Jan 2008

We need Modi on the national stage - for rapid economic growth, tough policy towards terror, equality for all (not appeasement of islamic terror/ violence, and highly efficient and uncorrupt government..

Modi as PM by Nawal Pandey on 27 Jan 2008

Mr. Modi is a man of genius, endowed with exuberance and imaginations. If the truth is not unimportant and substantive popularity can not be subordinated, he will be in the running for the position of the Prime Minister. Perhaps It would be difficult to deny him the opportunity considering how he has managed to become the front runner. Whether he wants to stake the claim or not and whether he would defer it to Mr. Adwani is altogether a different matter. Still he is a force to be recon with. As far as tradition goes, it would be appropriate to annoint Mr. Adwani as the PM but keeping in mind the destiny of the BJP, a leader like Mr. Modi would be more expedient.

The Hindus are taking the country back! by Raju on 27 Jan 2008

It seems that Media is not ready to forget that Mr. Modi has defeated their Gobelic Propagand in Gujarat. What corrupted media members failed understand that people has learned to varify the infomation and take their own judgement. As much the media supports the people whose only interest is collect money, transfer the same in lockers of foreign banks and disintegration of the nation! From Gujarat experience the Hindu voters have understood what is their power and they will place their power in practice as and when opportunity is given. The Hindus don't give much to RSS and VHP whose leaders did not give much to Hindu causes but given important to their eggo! The Indian politics is now clearly either party of anti Hindu or Pro-Hindu causes. Hindus will maintain and stand up for the Bharat and get rid off those people who work against Hindu interest.

Hindu taking country back by Indian on 27 Jan 2008

In which era you are living. If muslim do anything then all are right in the name of minoritism. Do you know any right started from Hindu. I have alot muslim friends so i respect them very much. No one talk like you . If you say it is Hindu who are enemy of development then why you guy need reservation for your development. You guy are so mean that your people feel ashame to accept APJ kalam as muslim. I still remember when Syed Sahabuddin said APJ is not muslim. So tell me who living in stone age Hindu or Muslim.

Hindu taking country back by Raju on 28 Jan 2008

Bro, I am living in 21st Century and refuse to take domination of ideas imported from dark ages in middle east. The reservaton policy for BC and ST with some changes is need of time as those commnities suffered for long time. The Minority of India did not suffer any thing but they make majority to suffer. If they are not progressing, is not caused to them by majority but their own belief and practices. I think your memory is short, APJ was placed in Presidential palace by the party which is abuse day in day out as communal! Any nationalist Bhartiya will proud of APJ. Sayed Shabuddin is fanatic man of modern poliics and should be behind the bars. The spineless pscudo seculars are the real problem of India, who crates bad situation for minority and beat the chest for their betterment!

Modi as PM----? by romesh.sharma on 27 Jan 2008

Anybody speaking against BJP and its leaders like Modi is either anti-nation or is fool enough for not to understand and recognize the facts through which the Congress and its allies have been dividing the communities. Its their propagandaism that induces anmosity and hatered among people of different castes and religious back-grounds.BJP promises and believes in equality and not special treatments to certain groups in the name of reservations and appeasements. There is nothing to stop Narendra Modi to be PM of India well if not this time but certainly next time.People speaking so loud against Modi are simply haters of Hinduism and have fears of losing the benefits they are cherishing under maliciously wilful congress.Certainly BJP has some draw-backs as no political party is free from moral difficulties which are inseparable from policy making but beyond doubts it far better than any other political party existing in India. One has to see and rationalize sincerely with future prospectives.

'No question of Modi becoming Prime Minister' by Yogesh Datta on 27 Jan 2008

The fact is Hindus might have caste divisions (thanks to Congress) but they are getting united because of danger to Hinduism. If 82% Hindus want Mr. Modi to be the Prime Minister who can stop it ?

Play it smart by withheld on 27 Jan 2008

Unless BJP plays it very cleverly and well differentiating that its concept of 'Hinduism' is nothing but nationalism in tune with the 'Sanat(h)an(a) Dharm(a)' it is not going to win any elections. Parties like 'Shiv Sena' are power hungry opportunitsts who do not have any respect for anyone except their 'cult' members. Worst still, they do not have any 'national' view but only narrow regional view ! Is this the Hindu ethos summarised by the 'Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam' statement ? Shiv Sainiks does not have any respect for women or their rights either. Same for minorities, non-mumbaiker, etc. But if NDA does not ensure equal rights for the minority vis-a-vis the majority, NDA will end up more like a 'Hindu Taliban'. Better to be firm on uniform code etc, but imperative to be respectful of human rights of all irrespective of gender, race, caste, religion etc. Otherwise, BJP wil not be able to lead and it will be causing further pain to the nation as a whole and the majority in particular. Use the bramin brain but with a mother's heart without falling for emotional traps out of past injustices.

Play it smart-BJP by s.v.nathan on 27 Jan 2008

I totally agree with this assessment. BJP has all along been seen is a virulent communal party. Now it is for the BJP leaders to dispel this patently wrong notion and image. Only time will tell whether leaders would rise to the occasion and project its true image in the eyes of the public and especially the so called "secular media - english one particularly". May truth emerge.

Modi's politics by raj shanti on 27 Jan 2008

Before the light dies it glows. Same thing happen with Kalyan singh in UP. Modi's career will also fade in politics after some time. May be by playing communal politics and rigging the elections he has won in Gujrat. But Maharashtra is a different playing field where Modi's communal antics and pranks will not stand against the regional parties. Let us see what happens in the coming Lok sabha elections.
