No response yet from Centre on SPG cover for Mayawati

Lucknow, January 11: Uttar Pradesh government on Friday said it had no ‘formal communication’ from the Centre on its request for a SPG cover for the Chief Minister Mayawati.

“We believe that our request for providing SPG cover to the Chief Minister is under consideration”, Principal Secretary (home), J N Chamber told reporters in Lucknow adding that in their assessment Mayawati should get this cover.

When asked whether the State government’s request for the same had been turned down, he said that they had no formal communication from the Centre on their request.

The State government had on Thursday sent a reminder to the Centre following its earlier letter seeking SPG cover for Mayawati.

“The SPG cover has been sought for the Chief Minister Mayawati after getting intelligence inputs of threat to her life by some terrorist outfits.

The Centre has been apprised of it and we are hopeful of getting the cover,” Chamber had said on Friday.

He said the State government could send more reminders to the Centre in this regard.
