New Delhi With differences persisting between BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley and party chief Rajnath Singh, RSS has intervened to resolve the issue even as senior BJP leader L K Advani insisted there was no rift in the party.

"This issue may make a good story for you but there are no differences within the party," Advani told reporters in New Delhi on the sidelines of a book release function.

He was replying when asked whether the differences between Singh and Jaitley over the appointment of businessman Sudhanshu Mittal as BJP's co-convenor of North East region had been resolved.

Jaitley had shown his displeasure at Mittal's appointment by keeping away from the Central Election Committee meeting of the BJP on March 13.

Sources close to Jaitley have said that he was unlikely to attend the next CEC meeting to be held on March 17 if Mittal is not removed.

Singh, on the other hand, has ruled out Mittal's removal.

In view of the stalemate, RSS has stepped in to resolve the differences, which have erupted just ahead of Lok Sabha polls, causing worries to BJP.

In this regard, RSS general secretary Suresh Soni called up Jaitley on Saturday night to find a solution to the stand-off, sources said.

ADVANI by rohit on 16 Mar 2009

Adivani saheb you and your priminister ambitions are the real cause of rift in BJP. The daturashtrara like obsession foe the post of PM is the root cause of all the rifts and it shall also be the demise of BJP at the polls

A sign of the times to come by Maple on 16 Mar 2009

This is only a sign of the times to come. There are many differences and contradictions within this divisive party. They will all come to fore after elections, until when a farce of unity is being maintained.

Jaitley vs. Raj Nath by GK Iyer on 16 Mar 2009

So Advani's denial has indeed confirmed that trouble is brewing. What a party with a difference!

IT IS POLITICS SUNDAR by Thomas Varghese on 16 Mar 2009

SUNDAR... why do you forget Nehru, Indira, Rajiv, Rahul and the other 'Gandhis' now in Nursery classes. They are all bound to be your leaders. Why single out BJP.

A PARTY WITH DIFFERENCES by K Sundar on 16 Mar 2009

Yes, BJP is not a "party with a difference" but a "party with differences". It criticizes Congress of following dynastic politics, but does not feel shy to adopt the same when it suits it. For instance, the kith and kin of the Dhumals, Yeduriappas, Rajnaths and Vasundaras have been give nomination for MP seat. It accuses the Congress of promoting corruption, but what it easily forgets is that under the umbrella of NDA it headed the most corrupt Government where even its President and MPs were caught on camera accepting bribes. Further, how could anyone forget Babubhai Katara ??

Jaitley etc. made no contribution for the growth of BJP. by Sivadasan on 16 Mar 2009

Jaitley should have no right to compete with the top brass of BJP. Many of the top leaders of BJP such as Jaitley, Arun Shourie, Jaswant Singh, Yashwant Sinha etc. have no background of party work but bestowed with leadership status. Their sacrifice for the party is 'zero'. It is often a funny scene, when Jaswant Singh is seen on dais with many senior leaders, including Venkaiyah Naidu etc. sit with the audience. BJP needs to change to become a party with a difference.

RSS intervenes - pls. stay away by oldindian on 16 Mar 2009

Very unfortunate, but expected development. It is jaitley who has been managing BJP's campaign deftly all along and till now he is yet to show a failure. Compare this with Rajnath singh- who as swapan das gupta had pointed out in an article, is Pratibha patil of BJP. The oldguards- rajnath, murli manohar joshi and his likes who still think they can hoodwink electorate thru their bajrang dal, VHP and other such outfits- should step aside if they want to give BJP another chance. Otherwise BJP will fade away like the neo nazi movement in europe - very noisy but of little substance and relevance to anybody.

BJP by Vaid S C K on 16 Mar 2009

BJP leadership must show much grearer sense of maturity not allowing any rift. This lok sabha election is quite crucial which would decide future of this national party.

IE see red only in BJP, all is well with congress by ramesh k on 16 Mar 2009

This is no big news! In every party there is internal differences between its leaders and settled or ignored as appropriate. However, in the case of BJP, Indian Express is taking undue importance to highlight the petty issues within BJP. Again, the entire public in India knows what is IE's motives behind this unethical approach to only only party while IE closes its eyes towards so many infightings and unethcial practices taking place in Congress in particular and in other parties in general! Take example of what happened yesterday and day before yesterday in Kerala! Rahul (khan) Gandhi appoints Youth Congress leader overnight and removes the incumbent president D. Siddiqui, and the new president and his sycophants celebrates throughout the night, but early morning Rahul Khan revokes the appointment again and brings back the existing one D. siddiqui! Needless to say, Rahul was forced to swallow his decision by the Kerala state unit. IE any knoweldge about it?

IE is another Tehelka for congress by Shallabh on 16 Mar 2009

IE under the new editor has become another pro-congressi instead of the anti-corruption paper it used to be. From centralist to a psedo-secularist paper. We can see from its viewership which has more pseudo seculars now....

India by paul on 16 Mar 2009

All the sanghi emails are fullof venom and hatred, Is this the cutlutre of India that the illiterate sanghi's want to have in India. And once again, India is not the private property of any relegion, it is of Indians, and to be an Indian you need not to be in any particular religion.

Take out sanatan dharma: India's soul is gone. by Shallabh on 16 Mar 2009

Paul, I don't know which generation of your was converted from sanatan dharma but your remarks are the very reason I'm against conversions in this country.anything hindu is Communal and everthing anti-hindu is secular.Just do a little bit introspection, India that we have left will become chucrchistan or islamistan of Sanataan dharma is buried and due to pseudo seculars like you, the pace is only increasing.

Where does religion come in???? by Anurag Jain on 16 Mar 2009

Paul, where did anyone bring religion in the discussion. But that's the way you prefer to think and take sides. And what is "Sanghi's". People above are only highlighting the point that media should be unbiased in reporting. Wouldn'e you support democracy, isn't unbiased media a pre-requisite of democracy. I am sure you realize that and wouldn'e appreciate news only which you would like to read. you know what i mean.
