New Delhi The Indian cricket team felt helpless and its frustration grew more and more after watching on Television the worst-ever terror attack in Mumbai last week, disclosed pace bowler Irfan Pathan, who was filled with a cocktail of emotions including hurt and anger.

"We were all very excited after our ODI win over England in Cuttack. We usually listen the interviews of Man of the Match and others on TV so that we can pull their leg but channels started flashing the terror attack and we kept glued to our seats till the morning. Everyone was hurt," Pathan said recalling the horror of 26/ll.

"The whole India was angry and so was I for what happened there (in Mumbai). Whatever happened there was shameful. We asked ourselves why can't we do anything, our frustration grew bigger and bigger as we watched the action on TV," he said.

Pathan, who was in New Delhi to promote Tata Teleservices of which he is the brand ambassador, said the team was planning to do some charity for those suffered in the tragedy.

"Maybe, we will do some charity," he said.

Asked if he had demanded extra safety cover, which a few of his teammates enjoy, he said it was now required by every Indian citizen.

"Not only cricketers but whole India needs special security at the moment," he said and urged celebrities from all walks of life to cooperate with the security personnel at public places.

"We should leave our comfort level and cooperate with the security agencies in places like this hotel (Taj Mansingh) because life is most important," Pathan said.

This is cricket by C. NAIR on 04 Dec 2008

In English, 'this is cricket' means gentlemanly, sporty, decent, diciplined, all that is best in demeanour. We salute you, young Mr Yususf Pathan, your statement, indeed, is cricket.

Respect by Varun on 04 Dec 2008

My respect for Pathan has increased considerably. Here is a sensible rarity.

Pathan will surely not like security watching him, his other activities will suffer. by Oh yeah on 05 Dec 2008

Oh yeah, respect my foot. Any LeT man surely will not like security men watching them. I am not saying that Pathan has direct links with LeT/Pakistan, but remember in the current security environment no secular Hindu or Muslim or Christian can be trusted.

security for comman man by k.madhukar on 04 Dec 2008

Will our Dalit beti , Mayawati, the CM of UP ,who struts around with security detail of about 300 people will see these reactions and surender part of her security detail to protect fellow UPcitizens?

sensible by vikram on 04 Dec 2008

Very well said Mr. Pathan. After all these years we have finally found a celebrity who is willing to set aside his status for the greater good. Half of our problems will be solved if politicians and other celebrities let the security forces and civil authorities do their job.

Security by Balaraman Radhakrishnan on 04 Dec 2008

I totally agree with Irfan Pathan. If the whole country is safe and secure, there is no need for extra-protection for the politicians. Will the politicians allow that? No, it will hurt their prestige.
