Chandrababu Naidu

New Delhi Maintaining that he was not aspiring for the prime minister's post, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said the issue on who will occupy the top job has to be decided by consensus.

"There is only one seat for prime minister's post. Many people have aspirations, ultimately, we have to bring some consensus. I am confident people will realise this.

Ultimately they will adjust on consensus candidate that will emerge," he said.

Asked if BSP supremo Mayawati could be a consensus candidate, the TDP leader said "I cannot comment on these things at this juncture. Reason is very clear - all of us have to sit in a coalition politics then decide the candidate".

"There is nothing wrong in aspiring, ultimately in Indian politics we are watching when the time comes everybody will adjust," he said.

Naidu said on his part he was not interested in the prime minister's post.

"Never have I aspired, even in future. I am not a candidate. Twice I got an offer, I made very clear I am not an aspirant," he added.

Mr Naidu is the right PM Candidate. by Ranjit on 19 Mar 2009

I believe Mr Naidu gets bad publicity over how he got the job of CM in 1995 and how he lost the job in 2004. If you look at his governence it was much better than other CM's in the past and since he lost the post. He is better than other state CM as well.He mproved Accountability aafrom Public services, He improved Governance. He took some bold steps which improved AP in terms of Investments and Economic growth. He is a right Candidate for PM post for India. Having said that Unfortunately the chances are less for him as Telugu desam party represents a fraction of the parliment and numbers may not be in his favour.(Unless he does a full sweep in the comming elections.)

PM for the asking ! by Hero Vaz on 18 Mar 2009

Yes, nothing is wrong with aspiring to be PM. There is no moral bar, there is no legal bar, there is no social bar, there is no economic bar, there is no educational bar and there is no ambition bar. How easy it is to have and to become a PM !!! God save India.

Naidu's Aspirations by Emmveeyem on 18 Mar 2009

Naidu is a very good CEO. Unfortunately, he has no wortwhile political base, hobnobbing with a gang of wrong set of political parties and unfortunately, he is also terribly handicaped by very poor oratory skill in English / Hindi.

Naidu as PM by D.A.Eswar on 18 Mar 2009

Naidu is a manipulator and jumped from Congress to TDP. He back stabbed NTR and took control of TDP.He neglected agriculture and poor people. He encouraged IT and made Satyam people as rich richer and poor poor. How can such a person can be accepted as PM when people of AP rejected him as CM.His castiest approach (Kamma) disenchanted people of AP. He may or may not aspire as PM but it is doubtful whether he will be acceptable as PM

Statesmanly Response by suresh chadive on 18 Mar 2009

Sensible comment by Naidu. He is a reasonable politician, who does not openly flaunt and twist the laws like the others. However, he has to learn his mistakes: staying in Utopian Laissez Faire ideals, a little bit of ego, being victim of group think. Else he is a accommodating politician that can make a good PM Material in diverse India.

Go Naidu Go by Natarajan on 18 Mar 2009

Naidu would make a great PM. Unfortunately Indian people sometimes take wrong decision and get clowns like YSR to replace Naidu and then complain that politicians are so bad.
