Chandigarh, January 16 Notices were issued to Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh over a petition filed by Paramjit Singh, resident of Muktsar. The petitioner has demanded protection for the witnesses in cases involving police officials against whom serious charges had been framed by the trial courts and by placing them under suspension during the trial.

The petitioner sought directions to all the lower courts falling in the jurisdiction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court for expediting the trials of cases involving police officials on whom charges have been framed.

Arguing the case, advocate Amit Sharma today submitted that the petitioner Paramjit Singh was falsely implicated in an NDPS case after he had registered a case against his daughter-in-law.

The counsel alleged that to counter this, a case of NDPS was registered against Paramjit after which he was illegally detained. Amit alleged that Paramjit was accused of possessing opium weighing about 800 gms.
