Mumbai Megastar Amitabh Bachchan said on Thursday that he has spoken to 'Slumdog Millionaire' director Danny Boyle and cleared the air on his reported criticism about the Golden Globe winning film.

It was Anil Kapoor who organised the telephone talk on Wednesday, Bachchan wrote in his latest blogpost.

Bachchan said he explained to Boyle the entire misinterpretation. "I also extended my apologies if this uncalled for misdemeanor has caused him and his film any anguish and grief," the Big B said.

Boyle had a good laugh over it, he said.

"He acknowledged my calling him and said I need not have. He draws my attention to the film being in a sense a tribute to my presence in it and expresses a desire to meet me on his next visit to the country," Bachchan said.

The actor said he had sent the extracts of his blog on the matter to Anil Kapoor and Danny Boyle adding that Kapoor had invited him for the premiere in Mumbai. "I explained my inability due to my travel and work schedule," he said.

Bachchan said the media would look upon this as a retraction, due to the onslaught it created and the fear of negativity on my account. "But what else can they do. They created an incorrect headline, propagated it through all mediums possible and shall now sit back and enjoy the fruits of its effect," he said.

Big B apologises to Slumdogmillionaire director by k.r.chandrasekharan on 25 Jan 2009

Even in his apology,Mr.Bachchan is narcissistic and egoistic.I dont know why should go head over heels to give him such undeserved attention.

Indian cinema double standards by vinay on 23 Jan 2009

isnt it ironic that the people who love in Manhattan, London etc - the focal point of KJo movies chose to make Slumdog a huge hit - the same KJO who always ape the west in his movies - infedility, same sex bonding etc

Bollywood Shmollywood by Alu Dasgupta on 23 Jan 2009

If "patriots like Big B" are happy about the 5 star parties in Karan Johar's films where 70 year olds dance with scantly clad women while 70% of Indian population is living without the basic needs fulfilled, then it would perhaps be better that they stick to that mindless form of vulgar "entertainment" instead of making senseless comments on a creative filed like cinema.

Get your facts right by Niru on 23 Jan 2009

I guess people need to read the article before commenting.1. Mr. Bachchan did not critisize Slumdog Millionaire. He took excerpts from comments on his blog and invited a debate.2. It is newspapers that picked those up and widely reported it in the media as Mr.Bachchans comments.3. If anything is to be critisized it it irresponsible media.4. It is the media which is picking up titbits from his blog and reporting it that too after tailoring it to their needs.Get your facts right before commenting guys.2.

Bad journalism by Nitin on 23 Jan 2009

Right said Milind! I felt exactly the same when I read the last paragraph and then re-read the article heading. Sad are the standards of journalism these days.

Now, Big B apologises to 'Slumdog' director by SAM KUMAR on 23 Jan 2009

Anil kapoor and his goons showed that they can sell their own country just to win a golden globe. This is nothing but kissing white ass.

Sour Grapes by Sachin on 23 Jan 2009

The Sour Grapes finally realised that there are lot others better than them. This is the right time people like Bacchan have started realising their real status. The VIRTUAL Status created by craze of people (for Bacchan) cannot be compared with the real art of an artist.

No balls by r on 23 Jan 2009

BigB by Prem Janardhan on 23 Jan 2009

Amitabh has a right to an opinion. He didn't have to apologize, and yes, his statements were probably exaggerated to make it look like he was trashing the film. The film is bold, but not all that novel, except that movies like this made by Indians tend to be a bit gloomy and this one as it is made by an outsider, is more upbeat.

Slumdog... by Geeta on 23 Jan 2009

I watched the movie, it is a good movie, but showing a small boy dipped in poops and eye operation were complete gross that could have been avoided. Bacchan is right to some extent if he said so. Last, critics of Amit Ji should noif "Amit Ji sneezes whole Indian contient catches cold"

amitabh by jigna on 23 Jan 2009

When he is left out, just like his wife he draws attention by idiotic comments. He thinks he excels in all fields of cinema. There is better cinema than the same churned formula that srk/you and others do. So learn to appreciate instead of bringing others down, it backfires or how would you something is burning.

Edmonton by Dr. D. Prithipaul on 22 Jan 2009

If Big B cares for his country he ought to campaign for the elimination of all slums in India.Big B's patriotism is a sham. There is more betrayal in the orgy of remakes of American B and C movies in a relentless, shameless display of ceaseless sycophancy and indiscriminate imitation of American kitsch. iFurther the tribe to which Big B belongs ought to read Indian novels, short stories and craft films with an Indian content. . Someone ought to ask the euphemistically called great actors how many books they have read during the last 10 years. Aiswarya Rai did not even bother to read the book DEVDAS though she was playing the heroine's role. That was a mesure of the illiiteracy prevailing in Bollywood. It is a shame that so many films are made just to humour the NRI economic refugees. We need more films like Slumdog Millionaire. Big B's oval soso beard is silly, even if he attributes patriotism to it. He never created a great film character.

Mr.Bachan you would have become a better politician then most of the SP members.

Funny how accurately Mr Bachchan predicted media reaction by Milind on 22 Jan 2009

I think the person who posted this story.. did not use his brain (maybe because the story was picked up from an agency?). Its really funny to read Mr Amitabh bachchan predict Media reaction (the title of this story is exactly what he said it would be).Somehow I expect higher standards of Journalism from Express Group. Stories like these, make me feel that journalists are ready to ignore facts in search of sensational story angles.

no need to apologize by Suresh Kumar on 22 Jan 2009

no need to apologize.Someone of Bachan's stature doesn't need to justify or apologize for his words to the media or to the director. His words are written on his blogs, the facts are there to be seen, should anyone want to check.

AB is not the authority by DBJ on 23 Jan 2009

Well, AB has done a good movie since Zanjeer, Anand and Abhimaan. All his movies since then been junk and several have have been crude much worse than reality in Slumdog M. He has no authority - he is just jealous that he could not make or be in a good movie. Retire an dleave us alone

AB should retire by sandy on 22 Jan 2009

What stature??? AB has gone senile and should retire from the public eye. What business did he have to criticize the movie? Just because he never had the guts to do challenging roles and make it to Hollywood, he shoould not deny Anil Kapoor, Irfan Khan their moment of glory.

No Need to Apologize by Shrikanth on 23 Jan 2009

Criticizing a movie is anybody's priviledge. AB has not done anything wrong in bringing the negatives of the movie. But by apologizing to the Director after drawing media flak, he has undone his integrity. When he criticized, he was Superstar, but his apology is like a cheap and dirty politician in denial mode. Probably, he has learnt it from Amar Singh who denies everything he said next moment.

AB is the greatest. Period. by Saswata Bose on 23 Jan 2009

"What stature??""... I mean did u say "What stature??".... Mr Amitabh Bachchan does not have stature?.... Do correct your opinions. Kindly read his blog. He just raised a broader question that the western media needs to recognise other forms of Indian cinema as well. He has in the past repeatedly praised and respected satyajit ray. But in the same context in his blog, he spoke about that as well. Moreover, despite being the absolutely UNDISPUTED legend of Bollywood, he has the decency to speak with Danny Boyle to clarify his position. Anil Kapoor and Irfaan Khan might have landed bit roles in a western movie, but to even think of comparing them with Mr.Bachchan is ludicrous. They did not have a perspective at west end, Mr.Bachchan. Lastly, I'll just say what Aamir Khan said in an interview just before Ghajini's release- 'Mr.Bachchan is undoubtedly the biggest star and greatest actor India has and it will not be possible to surpass him.' We lesser mortals do not have the right to be critical of someone of the STATURE of Mr.Amitabh Bachchan. In India there are only 2 people who are above scrutiny and criticism - Mr.Sachin Tendulkar and MR.Amitabh Bachchan.
