Both the parties held a meeting on Monday to discuss the long-standing grievances of the RSP and ongoing political situation in the state. A crucial Left Front meeting is scheduled for tomorrow to discuss the differences. Monday’s meeting was presided by Front chairman and CPM state secretary Biman Bose. Senior RSP leaders including Debabarat Bandopadhyay and state PWD minister Kshiti Goswami were also present in the meeting. Goswami has been highly vocal against the CPM.

Sources in the CPM said that the party tried to appease the RSP and resolve the nagging issues.

Rift had widened between the CPM and its partner over the issue of land acquisition. During the panchayat polls, both of them had fought face to face at several seats. On poll day in Basanti, four persons died in the clash between the parties, including three RSP supporters and one CPM member.
