Chandigarh, December 4 The rally season is on full blast with the next big rally all set to roll out on December 6 at Bilaspur, Yamunanagar, to mark the Mahaparinirvan divas of Dr B R Ambedkar. The ‘Dalit Chetna rally’ by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is also slated for the same day while Congress’ Dalit Samman rally will be held on December 9 at Karnal to thank Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for taking several pro-Dalit welfare measures, including the allotment of free 100 square yards plots to the Dalits and the poor.

Lately, both Congress and the INLD are trying to woo the Dalits. And Congress has gone one step further by patting its own back with a thanksgiving rally at Karnal. Preparations are on in full swing for this Dalit Samman rally on December 9 with Dalit organisations like Your Effort, Buddha Education and Research Federation, Confederation of SC/ST and BC Organisations actively campaigning to make it a huge success.

The grateful organisations are hoping that the Chief Minister will make a number of announcements on the occasion.

Karamveer Singh, president of Confederation of SC/BC Organisations, said the Dalits are expecting implementation of the 85th Constitutional Amendment in the state from June 17, 1995. They are also expecting Hooda to announce an increase in percentage from 10 to 27 per cent in direct quota to backward Class and OBC employees. Another expectation is that the CM will announce a special recruitment drive to clear the backlog of SC and BCs employees and time bound promotion for safai karmacharis. They also expect setting up of the Scheduled Caste Commission and the Human Rights Commission, in Haryana, said Karamveer Singh.

Former Haryana minister and chairman of Scheduled Caste cell of the INLD, Dr M L Ranga said the party planned to hold ‘Dalit Chetna rally’ at Hisar on December 6 in honour of Late Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Most of the nine MLAs of INLD belong to the Scheduled Caste, yet the party in the past hardly ever cared for their welfare, allege Congressmen.
