Around 485 new constables-cum-computer-operators are being appointed by the police department to make the facility available.
“From October 1, all FIRs in the state will be registered on computers. The software for the same has been developed by the National Crime Bureau,” said Sandeep Khirwar, SP, Panchkula. This will go a long way in not only maintaining proper records, but making the FIRs legible for others to read too.
A senior police official, on the condition of anonymity, said, “DGP R S Dalal has taken this step. There were complaints regarding time taken in registering an FIR, and some officials harassing people who wanted a copy of their FIR. With the system in place, the copy of the FIR will be accessible online anywhere in the country.” Besides, he said, many a time police do not register an FIR so as to show lesser incidents of crime in their area, which will not happen now.
