PATNA, NOVEMBER 3: In an apparent bid to score over his political rivals in Bihar and taking the anti-Raj Thackeray fight further, RJD president and Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Sunday said all his MPs, MLAs and MLCs would resign if the members of NDA, LJP and other parties did the same. Lalu has set the resignation date as November 15.

The announcement follows JD(U)’s recent statement that its five Lok Sabha MPs would resign if MNS chief Raj Thackeray was not arrested by November 6. Only two days ago, the RJD chief had said that he would speak after the Chhath Puja.

Addressing mediapersons, Lalu said: “Delegation of various parties had sent out a strong message of unity against the surge of regionalism in Maharashtra. But JD(U) decided to go it all alone to gain cheap publicity ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.”

He accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of “backing” his party’s central leadership decision of resignation of MPs.

Lalu said he would start seeking resignation of RJD’s 24 Lok Sabha MPs, four Rajya Sabha MPs, 54 MLAs and seven MLCs in a few days. “But Nitish and NDA must show the same guts. Let Nitish not be power-hungry. Three years as CM is good enough. I, too, have ruled for a long time and will not hesitate to quit.”

Bihar has 243 Assembly seats and 40 Lok Sabha seats.

The Union Minister repeated that his offer must not be taken as a “nautanki (gimmick)”. “I am serious,” said Lalu, suggesting that all political parties of Bihar must unite and fight against divisive forces.

“Let there be a steering committee to lead our joint movement. But no Bihar party would be allowed to have truck with Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena,” said Lalu. One cannot have the best of both worlds, warned the minister.

He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had already given a strong message to the Maharashtra Government to rein in MNS “goons”.

Reacting to Lalu’s statement, Nitish said: “Even if we resign, it will serve no purpose. We are asking for the imposition of President’s Rule in Maharashtra but will end up having President’s R ule in Bihar for no rhyme or reason.”

The Bihar Chief Minister said Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan could exert direct pressure on the Centre to take action against the Maharashtra Government. “If 29 UPA MPs from Bihar threaten to resign, everything will be solved in a minute.”

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi on Sunday said in Delhi that all possible steps under the law were being taken to ensure safety of north Indians in Mumbai and resignations were not the solution to such problems.

Advice to lalu by rajesh on 03 Nov 2008

Lalu is making noises,to move public attention from the mess he has created in the railways in Maharashtra by pursuing the politics of favouritism, why for past so many years only Bihar politicians became the railway ministers?.Raj thackeray rightly pointed to this in his own style.Lalu shud now concentrate on development to realise his aspiration of becoming the PM otherwise Sharad Pawar,Mayawati ,Advani or Modis r not far behind.

MNS agenda by vikas on 03 Nov 2008

With a soaring population and less jobs and investments, mostly away from the Hindi belts,India has to face the rise of regional aspirations for resources someday, with southern states more or less balanced in terms of jobs to the local people,People of Maharashtra has found the voice in terms of inequality in jobs for locals as private jobs r getting less and less due to slowdown, its a truth that there are less than 20%jobs to locals in Central govt departments such as Income tax,Railways,Provident fund etc even in places such as Vidarbha,Marathwada which are far away from mumbai. No political party in Maharashtra can ignore this.

LALURAJ by SURESH CHHATRE on 03 Nov 2008

I REFER TO THE COMMENTS OF V S CHAUHAN AS MOMBAI DOES NOT BELONGS TO RAJ RAILWAY DOES NOT BELONGS TO LALU YOU MUST NOTE THAT HOW LALU CAN SAY THAT THERE WILL BE NO EXAM FOR MAHARASHTRA. Fight against Terrorists by Professor Mahavir Saran Jain on 03 Nov 2008

In our fight against terrorism, the country must have a federal or centralised investigating agency, empowering it in a way so that it could geared itself to perform comprehensive intelligence work about all those terrorists and destructive forces whose aim is to disrupt peace and communal harmony / national integration of our country. This agency would be able to co-ordinate amongst the police forces of all the states. After having this agency, a stringent anti terror law/ extra ordinary law should be enforced to punish all the terrorists and destructors.

Raj Thakaray Politics by roshan ali on 03 Nov 2008

Politics of Raj Tackray is dangerous like Sunami. It would be prevent by central government or Maharashtra govt. If Leaders of Bihar threaten to Cent. Govt. to take action against Raj Thakaray and his Goonda, there is no problem in this.

RJD MPs by Raj on 03 Nov 2008

I am sure Lalu's MPs must be upset with his decision. The power hungry RJD politicians will surely not agree to it. There might be a revolt in RJD. Ask Rabri and she might not even know whats happening and who is Raj Thackerey.

Great news by Raj on 03 Nov 2008

This is really great news after a long time. Hope Lalu is serious. Plzzzzzzzz tell all ur criminal MPs to resign. The whole country will thank Lalu.

Raj Thackrey, Laloo- Idiots all the way by Ashish on 03 Nov 2008

This "Resign-Resign" game started by Laloo is not going to serve the core issue. It would only help the ministers for the impending elections.Idiots like Raj Thackrey and Laloo are pains to the society at large.

Lallu' resignation by Rajan on 03 Nov 2008

This is greatest opportunity for the nation of India. The day Lalu and his pack of JOKERS resign, it will be a golden day for Indian politics. Lalu and His JOKERS should not waste time and resign immediately. After all these JOKERS have totally failed to provide employment to Bihari youth and poor people.

Congratulations Laluji!! by Sanjay Kulkarni on 03 Nov 2008

The Center Govt. must take stiff action against Raj. Lalu and his party must resigne from the center and ensure action against Raj. The mumbai does not belong to Raj's forfathers.

Lalu to resign? Please do by Ajay, Pune on 03 Nov 2008

This is a wonderful opportunity to rid India of the tainted and convicted ministers and MPs. Please resign.

Lallu's threat of resignation by MOHAN DADDIKAR on 03 Nov 2008

Congress is too shrewd to know the hollowness of such bogus threats from their allies in the coalition Govt, The congress knows that it is the lust for power that is holidng the coallition together. If Lallu reisgns he will lose the power of doling out inimaginable largesses to his cronies in his party and Biharis in General? Wherefrom can he raise the funds for coming elections? For a face-saving device,he will request Sonia to promise stern action against Maharashtra Govt. and on the basis of that assuarance, he will withdraw his threat of resignation.

Lalu's threat! by R.Balasundaram on 03 Nov 2008

Let lalu show the way by resigning his ministership and prove that it is not 'natangi'!

North Indian in Mumbai by SUNIL NAIR on 03 Nov 2008

For God sake would good sence prevail upon the so called leaders of the masses. The root cause of the entire problem lies in each one of them competiting with other to make a bold statement before the media. This only helps in further fueling the fire. Please understand that we the common people of India have enough of problems before us, be it inflation, job security, personal security, education, health, terrorism etc. Please dont add on this list further problems. What has Mr Lalu Yadav did for the city of Mumbai. Has ever seen the plight of people travelling on local trains. What has the so called UP - Bihar politicians done for their state. Though with good natural resource they are backward as far as industrialisation is concerned. Let there be development across the nation. I have moved out of my native place to Mumbai. People move out of the home town for earning. Mumbai with a small geographical area and limited infrastructure cannt take the fresh influx.

This Reply should be read by everyone. by Santosh on 03 Nov 2008

I agree. I also think in same fashion.

Good Idea by Navin on 03 Nov 2008

For a change that is a good idea from Lalu.If he decided to disband his RJD it will be better still.Good luck Lalu, hope your own people listen to you!!

Right issue for resignation? by Sachin on 03 Nov 2008

Great...This shows what type of hypocritic leaders Bihar deservs..They are always ready to resign on issues of hate politics but not for developement and anti-corruption.I egerly urge media to don't support and give publicity to such acts only for ur trp you have much more responsibility on your shoulder.

Raj Thackeray episode by Ananda on 03 Nov 2008

Yes, Mr. Nitish Kumar's solution is the best in the circumstances. All the UPA members should threaten to resign and bring down the government if Raj Thackeray is not put behind bars immediately and the separatist movement unleashed by him and supported covertly by the ruling combine in Mahrashtra, is crushed.
