Noida Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has been popularly called “behenji” or “beti Mayawati” by those in her party and outside. On Friday, she earned a new moniker, that of “bua”, at a rally organised by the party in Noida.

The first major election rally by the BSP before the Gautam Buddh Nagar district goes to polls on February 28 held a distinctly aspirational tone with speakers talking about the increase in the number of colleges and schools, and new developments which have “put the district on the world map”.

Speaking at the rally, Jagdish Sharma, BSP district coordinator, said, “Humaari aadarniya bua ne hi to iss rajya aur Gautam Buddh Nagar to badhava diya hai. Countless schools and colleges have been opened. Everything in the district is now world class. The new Gautam Buddh Nagar University comprises 16 universities. Even the world renowned Chicago University in America has only 4 universities. We have four times that. Besides, she has brought the pride of India, the F1 race, which the young and old came to watch from all over the world, to this very district. If you give her another chance, more of this will follow. After all, this is her home district. She will come to address all of you in the district on February 22. Show her your support in even greater numbers then.”

Party general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra urged the gathering to not forget the calm the Mayawati government had brought after five years of SP “goondaraj”.
