In a meeting held here today, Industry Minister Manoranjan Kalia said expression of interests would be called shortly to hire consultants. He said the government was confronted with acute shortage of supervisors, just eight for as many as 700 quarries in Punjab. Today’s meeting also decided to reduce the term of the land quarry from the existing three to two years.
In the last meeting, the government had decided to hold auction of sand, gravel and quarries in the state. The notice for it would be issued shortly, Kalia said. The process of auctioning of quarries would be complete by March-end. The Punjab government, during the last auction, had earned Rs 12 crore and this time it hopes at least a three-fold increase, said sources. Quarries will be segmented on the basis of the potential at the time of the auction. It has been decided to club quarries, keeping in view their economic viability, Kalia said.
