"India is not complaining at all," Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor told reporters when asked if India was feeling 'left out' on not being mentioned in Obama's speech.
"What you are overlooking is that our Prime Minister has just been there. He received a pretty thorough exposition of the US' views on the issue and President Obama called him up in Delhi yesterday to brief him further before his public speech in the US," he added.
Pointing out that India has always maintained that it doesn't have a direct involvement in Afghanistan, Tharoor said, "American abbreviation for their policy is Af-Pak and I see India in neither of those two abbreviations. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the focus of this policy and focus of President Obama's speech."
Tharoor welcomed US' continued commitment in Afghanistan and said India was "very pleased that pressure on Al-Qaeda and Taliban in Afghanistan and on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border will not be eased."
US has announced sending 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan for containing insurgency and securing key population centres there.
Tharoor said that continued military pressure on Taliban and Al-Qaeda was an extremely important security component of the challenges faced by Afghanistan.
Refusing to comment on details of the US President's speech, Tharoor said, "It (Af-Pak policy) is the overall approach of continued engagement and focus on dealing with the every real security dangers faced by Afghanistan."
Tharoor said India believed that entire international community has a stake in continued stability of Afghanistan and success of the Hamid Karzai government in establishing his authority through out the country.
He added that India was making contribution in Afghanistan in a different way by building roads, hospitals, clinics and laying down power supply lines there.

The very idea of Af-Pak is to ensure that India is not mentioned in that context. Now when we are not - we begin to complain. Af-Pak is an alternative to the stupid Indo-Pak. We dont want to be bracketed with Pakistan, the failed and epicenter of terror state.
I do see India being mentioned twice as an ally with a stake?
It is realy a third world mind set of this 'would be super power'.We always try to equate ourself with Pak and in that process fail to see what is happening beyond our northern borde, China. It seems our aim is to become a better Pak.It is a good thing India is not mentioned. It is their AF - PAK policy and I don't understand how we fit into that military policy of US. This stupid media should try to see India in our own perspective rather than depting our country as some poor African nations extending the begging bowl to US.
Why and how is India involved in this war. Do we wish to have more Mumbai acts? What is wrong in our thinking that we poke our fingers in every pie3 whether we have anything to do with us. India should learn to keep quite and watch and see. It is time to grow up and look around with all that loose lips what have got us. We dont hae a single friend yes a single friend in the world. Thanks to Nehru and his followers who feel that World will stop if we didnot speak. Learn some diplomacy. What has India got to do with this War. We offered our services after 9/11 and were told to stay away so why now???? As I have siad before Taliban is an auxiliary force of Pakistan army and fighting proxy war to keep Afghanistan in that crescent . They are so insecure that after 3 wars they still feel that India might attack them from Afghanistan. They already blaming India for Baluchistan whereas they forget that they are using their gas and not even paying.India is their boggyman
For past 30 years Pakistan is continuously dominating the world stage whether its regional politics, global politics, controversies in games especially cricket or their role in breaking Russia and engaging America.I mean when it comes 2 survival west doesn't need 2 mention India at all.Pakistan is most important and she will carry on enjoying its important geographical status.
Well this is what we get for our PMs darbar vist to Washington at the feet of Obama to pay his obedience. PM please put safety and prosperity of India as priority and then other countries will consider as a world power. With 800 million Indians living in poverty and lacking basic health care, education, we are a joke.
Obama was talking about two failed states, namely Pakistan and Afghanistan. Why anyone in India would want their name mentioned in the same breath is perplexing. Its high time for Indians to stop worrying about these petty issues and focus on building their economy, military and efficient governance. Thank the Americans for the heavy lifting they are doing in fighting the Islamic terrorists. Once they tire and leave, will India be prepared to run with the ball or will it surrender and sucumb as is its history?
INDIAN MEDIA GURUS BEHAVE LIKE POMPOUS "BROWN SAHIBS"IN THEIR COMMENTS ABOUT OBAMA'S "AFPAK" SPEECH.THE WHOLE ENGLISH SPEAKING&READING PEOPLE WHO WATCHED LIVE THE SPEECH FELT LIKE WHAT Mr.THAROOR SAID EXCEPT THESE "BROWN SAHIBS"OFCOURSE.THEY APPEAR&BEHAVE LIKE BRITISH IMPLANT IN INDIA.ABOUT TIME THESE PSUDO POMPOUS ANGLOPHILES CORRECT THEIR "CRANIO-CAUDAL"INVERSION AND BEHAVE FEELING PROUD&HONEST INDIANS FOR GOD'S SAKE&INDIA'S TOO.
whom so it may concern, why we should take each and every speach very seriously. indian defence establishment is so strong enough it does not need any support of any super powers. in fact india is a supe power to it self... we are capable of soing things in our own way... and when it comes to pakistan .. us is playing double games .. it neither want to loose india or pak as it allies... for it own benefits. so it is up to us to act and think in the most positive way. we are not taking any help till now .. let it be like that
"Obama Af-Pak speech snub: India says 'not complaining'" says the IE headline. By not receiving Af-Pak envoy Holbrooke, India has already made the point (rightfully) that it is not part of that equation other than as a nation builder in Afghanistan. So why this talk about "snub"? India should be happy that it was not mentioned in the Obama speech. And to the Indian media: get out of your Third World mindset. You are always reading between the lines to see if U.S. presidents are undermining India in any way. When you are not doing that, you are focused on Bollywood and its shenanigans that no culturally aware person should really care about. Indian media: focus on issues that really matter, like why it is taking forever to approve foreign investment projects -- Popsco, Arcelor, etc.? Why is Air India still being kept afloat when it is losing hundreds of millions of dollars every year? Why is there no move on the archaic labour laws? India should get its house in order first.
Indian people are unpredictable commentary species. They now accused their own Indian media as a "Third world mindset". Is that freedom of information what the Indian always talking about?
In Obama's Af Pak Speech, there's no basis for India to be weary of being "left out." In 18 to 24 months time, when at all the US does exit Afghanistan, India will have much cause to fret for by then it will be a different ball game altogether.
Joining US war against islamic terrorists will get us nowhere. We have to fight it ourselves
India should not be touchy when anyone speaks about Pakistan. That country should be irrelevant to India.
I agree with Mr Tharoor's response. No need ever for India to pine for such mentions by any country including USA.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND THE FREE WORLD. The pathatic Al-Qaida should be defeated all around the world. In fact, India too should attack Al-Qaida or provide logistic support in the war against terror.
