Obama budget

Washington In a bid to address the rise of Al Qaeda and Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, US President Barack Obama's maiden budget presented in the Congress have proposed more military aid to the two countries.

US military aid to Pakistan has remained a matter of intense discussion, however, the Congressmen this time are pitching to increase non-military aid by linking it with Islamabad's success in fight against terrorism. The budget also seeks to increase the non-military aid.

When asked about the move at the Pentagon briefing, Joint Chief of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen said: "I think it's very important that we help resource them and develop this comprehensive strategy with Pakistan over a number of years. I'm delighted to see that kind of support in the '10 budget."

The budget also proposes increasing non-military aid to Afghanistan. "External challenges include undertaking a responsible drawdown of troops from Iraq and focusing the appropriate resources on achieving US objectives in Afghanistan," said the section of the budget related to the Defence Department.

State Department budget also calls to increase non- military aid to Afghanistan and Pakistan to revitalise economic development and confront the resurgence of the Taliban.

Arming Pak by Vaid S C K on 04 Mar 2009

If Obama approves sending more arms to Pak, efforts to contain terrorism shall be counter productive. The fact is that too much arms already with Pak has led to rise in terror and Jihadism. Continuing arming Pak leads to conclusion that either USA has failed to diagonise the real issue or intentionally keeping this region in turmoil.

Supplying weapons to Pakistan by The All Knowing on 01 Mar 2009

The only export that the U. S. has to sent to other countries is weaponry. Countries will want weaponry only if it is at war with some other country. So it is in the interests of the U. S. to keep countries at war. To that end it sends weapons to Pakistan so tensions between India and Pakistan will continue, and India will buy weapons from the U. S. The same rationale is used in aiding and abetting Israel. There's no use in crying foul. India should produce its own weapons, and not buy them from the U. S. or any other country for that matter.

Obama's waterloo by Hero Vaz on 27 Feb 2009

More military aid to Pak will be Obama's waterloo. Hope sense dawns on him in time.

Obama and US policies by romesh.sharma on 27 Feb 2009

This was said by me before Obama was elected that he will help Pakistan and will act anti-India in the long run.Though he and his extended help to Pakistan won't make much difference or say harm India more than its already doing but certainly Obama's policy will hinder growing relations with USA.This may not happen during UPA but there will be much problems and confrontations after general election scheduled in few months.Obama was/is a big demagogue and spokewhat peoplel wanted to hear.In action and practical he is no better than House-master(keeper)and do what is told by pro-Pak lawmakers.India shouldn't trust this person whatsoever irrespective how good statements in favour of India he may give.Wihin few days of taking to office he has changed his mind and contradicts his own words.Fighting Terrorism and Strategic interests are entirely different things.US feels uneasy to see India rising.China the dragon alone has scared enough and now India,a cause of fear to lose domination.

Stop manufacturing WMDs? by Hasan Abidi on 27 Feb 2009

US is trying to win a war which it has already lost. Its forces are on the verge of defeat and for that matter and to hide its weaknesses from the world, it has propsosed to increase in aid to Pakistan. The world should know that no weapons can bring peace. Weapons can only bring more barbarism as the owner of the weapons take a pride in having and using them and that also against those who are meak and weak and unable to raise the voices in a mass. US fight against terrorism did harm to the world thereby adding more radicals, fundamentalists and jehadists. The indiscriminiate dropping of missiles and bombs kills innocents and in turn the survivors of these attacks take the weapons in their hands to revenge the deaths of their dear ones so US is multiplying such revengeful acts and that is promoting terrorism. If US wants to win war against terrorism, it should have voiced its concerns

Popcorn Prez by Rajeev Pant on 27 Feb 2009

I have been writing from the start that this man will soon be called the 'Popcorn President' ..the way he just expects perfect answers to simply pop out from nowhere. He will be very bad for India whether it is Pakistan or outsourced jobs or carbon emissions.

OBAMA is no different by Arun on 27 Feb 2009
