Washington Two missile strikes targeting suspected terrorists hideouts inside Pakistan in the first few days of his presidency indicates that new US President Barack Obama is going to be tough on Islamabad, when it comes to the war against terror, media reports said.

This is the first tangible sign of President Obama's commitment to sustained military pressure on the terrorists groups there, even though the Pakistanis broadly oppose such unilateral US actions, The Washington Post reported on Saturday.

Throughout his election campaign, Obama maintained that his administration would not hesitate from going ahead with unilateral strikes against high value targets inside Pakistan if it had actionable intelligence, even if this was opposed by Islamabad.

In a page one report, The Washington Post said though President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed hopes of a very warm relationship with the new Administration, Obama's national security team has already "telegraphed their intention to make firmer demands of Islamabad than the Bush administration".

This demand would be backed up with a threatened curtailment of the plentiful military aid that has been at the heart of US-Pakistani ties for the past three decades,it said.

"The separate strikes on two compounds, coming three hours apart and involving five missiles fired from Afghanistan-based Predator drones were the first high-profile hostile military actions taken under Obama's four-day-old presidency," The Post said.

In an interview to CNN, the former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said on Friday that such air strikes have made US unpopular.

Obama is going to be tough on Pakistan: Report by Suresh Rao on 26 Jan 2009

Just as one swallow does not make a summer, twomissile strikes will not make anydifference especiqally since the US state department is full of Pakis. Let us not get carried away by this isolated incident

Paki subservience by Hero Vaz on 24 Jan 2009

The Pakis are so subservient, in relation to the US, that they will stomach any thing that the US dishes out. Musharraf, who licked the Americans all over when he was "President", is now trying to make some cheap noises to ingratiate himself with the people of Pakistan to set the ground for his come-back into the limelight via the political route.

Needs more vigil at border by P.Kulandavelu on 24 Jan 2009

I think for his survival, ex.Pak.President told to CNN that air strikes have made US unpopular. In his period only terrorism in Pak.has grown up and now it is un controllable.Mr. Obama is taking the right steps by increasing the attacks on the terrorists at the Afgan-Pak. borders.Surely this will shake the terror groups as they were not expecting much from the new US President. Now India should be more vigil on the border. If the terrorists feel they are loosing ground in Pak.surely theywill try to infitrate inside India. Our security forces should not hesitate to shoot anyone who is crossing the border.Without challenging they should shoot at sight if they see any intruders.Surely if US continues their action like this there are more possibilities for border crossing by the terror outfits. So now more responsibilities are there for our security forces.

OBAMAon terror by VIJAY on 24 Jan 2009

US President should call all world leaders for a summit on how to control terrorism, If all world leadeers discuss this issue we will never see end of terror. There should be unform law on terror world wide. Every nation should investigate instance of terror strikes. Use the Muslim clerics who are liberal to teach the hard core terrorists about ill effects of terrorisim, the carnage, the sufferings people are suffering. Infrastructure is being destroyed.Hoep OBAMA takes the lead

High hopes by Suresh on 24 Jan 2009

I wish you all the best. Should we also perform a yagya to achieve this wish? We are very good at it. Every one else has his/her own problems to handle. No one, in the history of India was ever interested in knowing if we live or die.
