Obama's economic policies irresponsible: Jindal

Washington Republican rising star and Louisiana's Indian-American Governor Bobby Jindal accused President Barack Obama of pursuing "irresponsible" economic policies but promised to work with the new administration in putting the US economy back on track.

Giving the Republican Party's official response to Obama's maiden State of the Union address, Jindal, much discussed as a possible 2012 White House contender, said "all of us want our economy to recover and our nation to prosper.

"So where we agree, Republicans must be the President's strongest partners. Where we disagree, Republicans have a responsibility to be candid and offer better ideas for a path forward," he said in a televised address from his home state.

The Louisiana Governor said the strength of America is not found in its government. "It is found in the compassionate hearts and enterprising spirit of our citizens," he said.

To solve the current problems, Jindal said Washington must lead. "But the way to lead is not to raise taxes and put more money and power in hands of Washington politicians. The way to lead is by empowering you - the American people. Because we believe that Americans can do anything," he said as he went on to criticise Obama's stimulus plan.

"It's irresponsible. And it's (the package) no way to strengthen our economy, create jobs, or build a prosperous future for our children," he said.

"Democratic leaders say their legislation will grow the economy. What it will do is grow the government, increase our taxes down the line, and saddle future generations with debt," the Indian-American Governor said.

Jindal, who has refused to take a portion of the federal money under the stimulus plan, asked: "Who among us would ask our children for a loan, so we could spend money we do not have, on things we do not need?"

That is precisely what the Democrats in Congress just did, he observed.

Taking a swipe on his own party, Jindal said: "In recent years, these distinctions in philosophy became less clear - because our party got away from its principles."

He said: "You elected Republicans to champion limited government, fiscal discipline, and personal responsibility. Instead, Republicans went along with earmarks and big government spending in Washington. Republicans lost your trust - and rightly so."

Jindal said: "A few weeks ago, the President warned that our nation is facing a crisis that he said "we may not be able to reverse." Our troubles are real, to be sure. But don't let anyone tell you that we cannot recover - or that America's best days are behind her."

Booby Jindal must first realise thats its their party and their dishonest leaders and their policies are responsible for this kind of a situation so the last thing we need is some republican advising us on economic policies , second of all a person like you who can change his religion to get votes and political mileage has really no character at all so stop talking Jindal , your opinion or your party's opininon does not matter here

Bobby's Criticism Unwarranted by Jayakar Dalavai on 25 Feb 2009

Yes, we have rights to disagree with the majority and agree with a minority. Bobby was candid about his fellow Republicans’ activities when they were in power yet, he is blaming Obama for being irresponsible. Well Mr. Jindal, my opinion about your economic intellectualism is beginning to waver. You have made your first blunder by being impatient. There are ideological differences between you and Obama; those will continue to widen if you don’t let a man who won 53 % of the vote to administer. All those who voiced their opinions through the polls, have a right to expect what Obama promised them. Your time will come when people think you are ready. Watch out for PALIN.

What Jindal is saying does not seem to make any economic sense but is more in the nature of just an attack on what Mr Obama has said. Jindal should remember that to attack Obama at this high point in his Presidency is a tactical mistake ,even if it might throw up a chance to be seen as an enthusiastic Republican face to counter hi. Jindal should wat a while before making a serious bid.

Jindal..useless by tania on 25 Feb 2009

To put more money and power in the hand of Politicians ..according to Jindal how it is going to boost the economy..Mr. Jindal.. another corrupt Indian politician..

Obama must disregard this attack by Jindal as an attack by Indians, Jindal is anyway converted. by Unsecular on 25 Feb 2009

Jindal is a tool in the hands of Xtian fanatics who want to create a rift between Indians and Obama. Obama must not think of this attack by Jindal as an attack by Indians. He must remember that Jindal is a convert, a serpent with a forked tongue, and even his grandfather would not consider him his own lineage. Remember that Jindal converted to Xtianity when his grandfather died. Was he showing respect to his grandfather, or was he showing his ultimate disrespect to his grandfather's soul? Xtians believe that all non Xtians will rot in hell for eternity, so we must ask "Bobby" if he thinks his unsaved grandpa and mum n dad will be punished by his Godd and Joozus?
