Quoting unnamed US military and intelligence officials, the 'Washington Post' reported that drone attacks and ongoing Pakistan military offensive in restive NWFP have unsettled and shaken top Al Qaeda leadership in their relative invulnerability in Pakistan's mountainous tribal sanctuaries.
The officials said the pressure built by missile attacks and reverses suffered by Taliban in army operations might force top Al Qaeda leaders to become more visible.
While, Al Qaeda remains a most potent threat, "they have suffered some serious losses and seem to be feeling a heightened sense of anxiety. That is not a bad thing at all," the officials said.
They said with Taliban suffering major losses due to the Pak military offensive, would soon force Al Qaeda to "make a move" and undertake open communication on cell phones and computers even if only to gather information on the situation in the region.
"They become more visible," the official was quoted as saying by the newspaper. "It remains unclear whether US intelligence and Pakistani ground forces can capitalise on such opportunities before they vanish," the daily said.
"Chances to intercept substantive Al-Qaeda communications or to take advantage of the movement of individuals are always fleeting," officials said, according to the news report.
The comments by officials assume significance as post 9/11 there have been almost no reports of sighting of top Al Qaeda leaders including the world's most wanted terrorist Osama Bin Laden, his deputy Ayman al-Zawahri and others.

Pakistani leaders and army top brass are not aware of thestory of Bhasmasura who obtained a boon from Lord Shiva thatanyone on whose head he put his palm would turn to ashes. But when he tried to test the efficacy of that boon on Shivathe premordial god had to flee for his life and it took all the ingenuity of God Vishnu to turn the boon to kill thedemon. This lesson would have saved Pakistan and its ISI much turmoil.

AT LAST PAKISTAN HAS REALLY WOKEN UP TO FACE THE GROUND REALITY , REALISING ITS' TIME TO SAVE THEIR OWN COUNTRY FROM THE MONSTER THEY CREATED TO TROUBLE OTHERS. THE SINCERITY BEING SHOWN NOW SHOULD HAVE EXISTED MUCH LONGER . IF ONLY FORMER PRESIDENT GEN MUSHARRAF HAD SHOWN A SIMILAR RESOLVE LIKE GEN KAYANI TO FINISH THE MILITANCY / TERRORISM AND THE LEADERSHIP OF AL QAEDA HIDING IN FATA / WAZIRISTAN AREAS , THE SITUATION WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT NOW IN SOUTH ASIAN THEATRE .ANYWAYS BETTER LATE BUT TIMELY ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN , OTHERWISE THIS ENTIRE REGION WOULD HAVE BEEN ENGULFED WITH BLACK HEADS MOUNTAIN RATS -- TALIBAN . KUDOS TO PAK ARMY . THEY SHOULD NOT END THEIR TASK TILL THE LAST RAT IS KILLED .
India had been under Muslim Kings for centuries, and this fact is etched deep in the minds of Pakis. To be fair to them, Pakistanis hatred for India is natural, thanks to the 1971 war leading to the break up of Pakistan. But history teaches us, that facts of past history are better forgotten - let bygones be bygones - among sovereign nations the world over, and new relationships are built keeping in mind promotion of trade and commerce for a better future. Being neighbours, which is a fact of life, it is time Pakistan and India try to build mutual goodwill and promote economic and cultural relations across the border.
Erol D'monty, obviously, does not know the Paki mentality. The Paki Muslim continues to believe that the Muslims who ruled India for centuries are superior to the Hindus of India and it is below them to suffer any disadvantage in discussions and dealings. This apart, the Pakis are still smarting under their humiliating defeat in the 1971 war, which resulted in the break up of Pak. The Kashmir issue is kept going, whether by the army or the politicians, for personal or political gains. With a mindset of that sort, no sensible behaviour can be expected of Pakistan.
Terrorism never paid dividends. The fact that terrorism always comes to bite the very hand that feeds it, a good example of what is happening in SWAT valley.I hope that Pakistan learns its lesson and realises that India has never been its enemy. Its enemy lies entrenched in its own soil.Working for apeaceful settlement and closely with India is the only way out.Our countries need to spen more on Infrastructure and its people and not on building arsenels.
