SAS Nagar, September 19 The Silvi Park Library being run by the Municipal Council Mohali (MC) in Phase X, has not been supplied with newspapers for the past few days, after the Browser Company of Chandigarh that was earlier managing the library quit the job about two months ago.

Councillor of the ruling group Amteshwar Kaur today visited the library after senior citizens of her area complained about the poor state of the library. Kaur said she was shocked to find old newspapers in the library and even the books in the library looked quite old. She said, “The books on general knowledge were for primary level students and were mainly 1996 editions. The other books in the library were also of old editions and the number of books in the library was quite low.”

The councillor said the municipal council should run the library in a professional manner, and if it is not able to do so, it should handover the contract to some reputed company.

She said the council should also inquire about the presence of old books and absence of newspapers in the library.

When contacted, Executive Officer Mohali MC Jagir Singh Thind said the council has passed an agenda item to purchase books worth Rs 2 lakh for the library. He said the newspaper supply has been regular in the library and he would check for any irregularities in this regard.
