New Delhi, January 15 The North district police on Tuesday said they arrested a member of a gang which stole 78 mobile phones worth Rs 15 lakh from a Kalkaji shop last week.

The accused, Abdul Kalam (32), was arrested near Delhi University metro station yesterday, and the stolen phones were recovered from Lajpat Rai and Gaffar markets, police said.

Other members of the gang are, however, absconding said police. The phones are of different makes, added police.

Kalam, who hails from Madhubani district of Bihar, is a disposer of stolen goods, police said. Kamal also worked at a sari embroidery shop.

Police said the accused Jameel—Kalam’s uncle—Jhoolan, Jeetu, Vishal and Tahir, hail from Bihar. Kalam studied up to the ninth standard and is married, police said.

“Efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang,” said Devesh Srivastava, DCP North district.
