Shattered by the incident, the residents say that such trips will now become a taboo for them.
Tarun Mitra Mandal — which had organized the trip — had put up notice boards in the locality offering condolences to the bereaved families. The officials from the mandal also helped in bringing the victims home.
Till late on Monday evening, there was much chaos and confusion among the residents after the body of one of the passengers went missing. “One woman passenger has not been found among the dead or the injured. We don’t know what is happening,” said a resident.
“I could not stand the sight of the mutilated bodies. I was traveling in a separate bus at the time of the accident. I am too disturbed by the incident,” said Sunil Bamne, a passenger who was in a mini bus.
At the BDD chawls in Worli, where a few of the victims stayed, residents were more concerned about the whereabouts of the passengers than blaming anyone for the incident.
