It can be mentioned that though this expressway has been accessible to traffic for sometime, it has not yet been commercially opened. There will be three toll plazas on the expressway — at the Delhi-Haryana border (24 kilometres from CP) at the end of the project’s reach (42 kms from CP) and at the intersection of a loop leading to the international airport.
On Wednesday, General Manager of DS Constructions Rafi Khan, said, “We are finalising formalities with various government and private agencies and will be operational any day now.”
The construction of roads, flyovers and service lanes are complete here, Khan said, adding, “what remains to be given are the final touches, including installation of sign boards etc.”
Although no specific date has been set for the formal inauguration of this expressway, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) sources say the stretch should be fully functional within this month.
The Delhi-Gurgaon expressway project was undertaken between NHAI and M/s Jaypee-DSC Ventures Ltd on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis on April 18, 2002.
The project has been delayed several times due to changes in design (see box below). According to the agreement, the company is entitled to make good the money it has invested in the project through toll.
It is learnt that daily personal traffic will be given a concession of 50 per cent on applicable toll; the concession for daily commercial traffic is 66 per cent.
5 reasons for expressway delay
* Finalising finer details with government authorities on security matters
* Installing, and making trial runs of toll tax gear
* Time in approvals and sanctions
* Security along expressway
* Landscaping
