'Openspace' presents changing image of India in global media

New Delhi, May 1: A young NRI filmmaker and youth icons from politics, industry, sports and media, on Wednesday, came together for a film screening and a panel discussion on untold stories of contemporary India and India's changing image in the global media.

The event was held under the auspices of 'Openspace: Jindal Foundation for Development', an organisation founded by Shallu Jindal, an accomplished Kuchipudi dancer and wife of steel industrialist Naveen Jindal.

Speaking on the occasion, Shallu said 'Openspace' was founded with a vision to provide a wide-open platform for the promotion of cutting-edge and creative ideas in diverse fields such as art, culture, sports, film and media.

The event commenced with the screening of Indique – Untold Stories of Contemporary India, a series of documentaries presented by Simone Ahuja, a second generation Indian-American. The vignettes from her documentaries highlighted contemporary Indian topics such as ecotourism and luxury travel, ayurvedic spas, burgeoning wine industry, new emerging trends in sports such as rugby, the globalisation of Bollywood, and other interesting aspects and insights into the currently dynamic modern Indian experience.

The documentaries authored by Simone are currently being aired successfully in US on PBS and are also being shown on several international airlines. In India, the films are scheduled to appear very shortly on Zee TV.

Following the screening, a panel discussion was held on India@60: Changing Images of India in Global Media. PR Guru Dilip Cherian moderated the panel discussion, where luminaries from different fields shared their personal experiences and discussed their respective roles in contributing towards a strong and contemporary image of brand India.

Polo player Angad Kalan shared his personal experience in the international sporting field and talked about need for grooming youths in different sports. Actor Chitrangada Singh provided her opinion on how movies could change the perception of India globally while designer Suneet Varma discussed the fashion perspective. MP Sachin Pilot shared his political experience and industrialist and MP Naveen Jindal shared his thoughts on how Indian Inc was perceived globally.
