Kolkata, March 17 The Budget statement issued by state finance minister Asim Kumar Dasgupta in the state Assembly faced criticism from the Opposition parties on Monday.

Partha Chatterjee, Leader of the Opposition and senior Trinamool Congress leader, said the Budget does not have any concrete scheme for the education, power, health and education sectors.

He added, “It is against the people’s interest. It also doesn’t address the issue of inflation.”

Chatterjee said: “The Rs 100-crore scheme, announced for providing cooked food to the poor, will instead feed the party cadres of CPM. The Budget has also ignored the needs of the minorities, schedule castes and tribes. It has been made keeping in mind the panchayat elections.”

Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, Manash Bhunia, said: “The economy has become stagnant. The government’s proposed scheme for providing cooked food to the poor confirms a Central government report stating that a section of state’s population cannot afford food.”

While Dasgupta was presenting the budget in the Assenbly, Trinamool Congress members carried garlands made of vegetables and protested against the rising prices of essential commodities.
