Nagpur, January 31: A fast track court has asked a rape accused to choose between a five-year rigorous imprisonment or a wedlock with the victim in neighbouring Wardha district in Nagpur.

Additional Session judge G D Bansod asked accused Rahul Khemraj, found guilty of raping a minor girl, to either tie the knot with her or opt for a jail term of five years, awarded to him by the court on Wednesday.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 and ordered a three-month prison term on default of payment.

Rahul had sexually abused the girl in the pretext of marrying her and later deserted her, following which she lodged a police complaint against him.

However, it is still unknown as to which option was taken up by the accused after the court announced the verdict on Wednesday.

Dear ttpms, are you a rapist and were in prison??How do you know that the indian prisons are full of Muslims only. You see place like Dubai and Saudi Arabia where shariah law prevails. The crime rate at lowest level. The people feel secure and the women can walk freely even in night without any body dare touching them. Ask any hindu women staying in Dubai and Saudi arabia. You will be enlightened and forced to advocate shariah law in whole of India.

This judge NEED to go to law school and also have some basic education in civility. Women are NOT Objects. Punish according to IPC as the girl is a minor. Where are living Mr. Judge?

That's true.

Total crappy judgement by sankar on 31 Jan 2008

I remember the "legendary" tamil movies, in which the villain is forced to marry hero's sister for raping her. What a stupid decision. Now a days, even in cinema these non-sense have stopped appearing.

Highly foolish or Completely corrupt. by Srujana on 31 Jan 2008

What crazy option is this anyway??Has the girl not suffered enough?? Are we trying to maintain the notion that a girl who has been raped has to be ashamed and live her life in fear and embarassment? The option of a wedding should be left to her and not to the degraded rapist..what is the message we are conveying and what are the values that we are upholding??If anyone should be made to pay for this crime its the accused and he should be made to pay it in full and not the poor girl who has been hurt enough to last a lifetime.Getting married to the victim is his easy way out and therefore it's utter foolishness to hand him his freedom, are we running a system of justice or is this a mere charade? This is unpardonable and should be revoked.

Implement Shariah law and see how the crime rate will come down.

Shariah law by Rajeev on 31 Jan 2008

what has shariah law to do with this case. The judge just needs to get some fresh lessons in law. Anyways, shariah is no good. Have seen it in afghanistan. It just makes animals out of humans.

sharia for muslims by t.t.p.m.s on 31 Jan 2008

Yes, Shariat law for muslims and normal criminal law for non-muslims. Then you see, how the crime rate comes down. 90% of criminals are muslims, thats why indian prison is full of them.

Rape by ilarum on 31 Jan 2008

Is the court direction is justified? If married, whether the victim get justice. What is this rule? First you rape and later marry her. If this judgement is tenable then isn't it a chance giving to the culprits/ devil mined males to start to rape innocent girls everywhere. Or those who want to marry to an unwilling girl he will get a chance to rape that girl. This leanence / choice should not become a weapon in the hands of cruel minded people. The rapists should get severe punishment such as cut off his pennis. Only on such actions by the judiciary, the crime rate will come down. Further my advise is such punishments should be telecast in all TV channels and in print media with photos, so that every rouge will think twice before doing any devilish act.
