Orissa riots

New Delhi The Supreme Court on Monday said it would not allow "persecution" of minorities and asked the Orissa government to resign if it was unable to protect Christians who were targeted in recent riots that followed the assassination of a VHP leader.

"We are secular country. We cannot allow persecution of minorities," a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said.

The Bench, which also comprised Justices Markandey Katju and P Sathasivam, criticised the state government for allegedly stepping in late to check the violence against the minority community after the killing of VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on August 23, 2007.

"It is the duty of the state government to protect the minority community. You (State) have done only after 50,000 people of the minority community fled to the jungles," the Bench said when senior advocate K K Venugopal said that the Orissa government has complied with the orders of this court.

"We will not accept the persecution of minority. If the state government is unable to protect them it should resign," Justice Katju observed and added "we have to protect the minority".

"No minority community should be insecure in the country," he said.

The apex court, which in October last had directed the stationing of para-military forces in the riot-hit areas till December-end in view of Christmas, asked the Orissa government not to take any unilateral decision on its withdrawal.

The Bench said any decision on withdrawal of central forces should take place in coordination with the Centre.

CATHOLIC BAITING by NASSER ABDULLAH on 08 Jan 2009

IT IS THE HINDUTVA ENTHUSIASTS SUCH AS THE INDIAN EXPRESS WHO PROVIDE THE MOTIVATION TO ATTACK THE MINORITIES IN INDIA.IT IS HIGH TIME THAT THE MEDIA ,WHO SENTENCED TO DEATH , IN THE WORDS OF JUSTICE HEMA OF THE KERALA HIGH COURT ,THE ACCUSED IN THE ABHAYA CASE ,WHO SHOULD BE PUNISHED, FOR DEFAMATION,WITH HUGE AMOUNTS .JUST READ THIS HON:S.C.JUDGEMENT !

MINORITY PERSECUTION by N.V.SANBKARAN on 07 Jan 2009

It is surprising to see that even the Supreme Court is being influenced by the anti-Hindu propaganda by the biased media. What happened in Kandhamal was a caste war as a reaction against the cold blooded murder of Swami Lakshmanandji, which unfortunately turned out to be a war between the Hindu Kandhas and Christian Panas. Independent India had 4 Muslim presidents, several cabinet ministers and our current defence minister is a Christian. Can you name one Christian majority country in the world where a non-Christian or a Muslim majority country where a non-Muslim is occupying such powerful position? You can see people from the minority communities occupying powerful and respectable positions in other fields also in India. Yet, they always cry percsecution. How much religion can the Christians practise and propagate in the Islamic countries? Despite all these complaints, the minorities in India are much better off than the minorities in the Christian or Muslim majority countries.

partial vedic by pasha on 06 Jan 2009

this is a right move by the apex court, but I'm asking the supreme court and it's judges why they didn't pass such orders or such directives to those states where the state government not only organized riots and acted to be the promoter of genocide. why supreme court did take any action again the Gujarat government in the famous Godhra kand.

STOP CONVERSION by bharath on 06 Jan 2009

Alarming 5 fold increase in Kandhamal Christian population from six per cent in 1971 to 27 per cent in 2001 ,It began with the arrival of Christian missionaries in the area who found the remote region very conducive to conduct prosetylization amongst the poor tribals. The conversions continued unhindered until the arrival of Swami Laxmanananda who put strenuous efforts to stop conversions and help reconversion to Hinduism as well. If not for his effort Kandhamal would have been another Nagaland in the making where the separatist movement has wrecked havoc in the state. The aggressive Christian proselytization in Orissa today pitched previously peaceful tribals into warring camps of Christians and non-Christian. This has has vitiated the peace that has existed with various communities for millenia. Why Orissa Orissa has been specially targeted because of a huge tribal population. This allows the missionaries to work from the scrutiny of the media.

CONVERSION TERRORISM by Prakash Menon on 06 Jan 2009

The biggest threat the Indian union facing now are two menaces, viz. religious conversion and terrorism. This is a time when prayer halls and churches all over Europe are getting converted into Clubs and Libraries, scores of it are raised in India, majority of those places, there are no christians for name sake. This is the handy work of Keralites, who leaped into all over India for livelihood but now involved in conversion there. If this menace if not stopped by the Govt. many such Kandhamals are bound to happen not only in Orissa; but elsewhere in India, for which Christians are only responsible. This conversion terrorism should be stopped immediately, in HINDUSTAN.

Deliver Impartial Verdicts. by KP Pillai on 06 Jan 2009

This does not happen after allowing by the Court or Govt. It is a natural reaction of the general public when their sentiments are hurt or when their reverred persons are butchered. Life of all humans are valuable, which should not be differentiated at own wishes, sitting in the highest seat of justice.

ERRING JUDGMENTS by ANIYAN on 06 Jan 2009

THE BENCH HEADED BY CHIEF JUSTICE BALAKRISHNAN, IS NOT EXPECTED TO DELIVER A BALANCED JUDGMENT. HE IS A KERALITE, THE STATE WHICH PRODUCES THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PRIESTS AND NUNS FOR DEPLOYMENT ALL OVER INDIA, WITH THE ACTIVE SUPPORT OF FOREIGN MONEY AND A SPECIFIC TARGET OF WEEKLY AND MONTHLY TARGET OF CONVERSION. HE IS THE NOMINEE OF CPM GOVT IN KERALA. ALTHOUGH HIS NAME HAS A TITLE OF KRISHNA, HE IS TOO FAR FROM THERE IN TERMS OF HIS ACTIVITIES. HE HAS A LOBBY OF JUDGES, SUCH AS JUSTICE HEMA IN KERALA HIGH COURT, WHO DELIVERED A JUDGMENT RECENTLY FAVOURING TO LET THE THREE KILLERS OF AN YOUNG NUN IN 1992, ON BAIL, WHO HAPPEN TO BE PRIESTS AND NUN. THE GUILTY OF THE KILLED NUN WAS THAT SHE HAPPENED TO SEE THE SEXUAL ACTIVITIES OF THIS THREE (TOGETHER) IN THE KITCHEN OF HER HOSTEL, WHEN SHE WENT THERE TO FETCH DRINKING WATER. SO, THERE IS A CONCERTED EFFORT TO THWART LEGAL SET UP IN INDIA, TO APPEASE MINORITIES. THIS IS AN UNOFORTUNATE SITUATION !.

SC's say not enough- deal with terrorists in Kandhamal by Anitha Chettiar on 06 Jan 2009

SC's stand is not enough. No question of 'won't allow minority persecution', because they are already being persecuted. Since four months, till today around 8000 christians are living in Relief Camps in Kandhamal district of Orissa. What a shame! A spineless government at the Centre and State are mere spectators to the this persecution and tragedy. Mr P.Chidambaram can we expect your attention towards Kandhamal in dealing with the terrorists within our fold? Anitha Chettiar, Mumbai

Two groups of Terrorists by Paul Krist on 06 Jan 2009

Muslim Jihadists are the major terrorists not only in India but also the world over, and of course they are being defeated, they will soon be routed totally, despite their sweet dreams otherwise. The other group of terrorists is the Christian missionaries - these guys are not hidden terrorists, but open ones using frauds and deceptions before the gullible, the illiterate and the poor and the diseased. Whatever the judicial pretensious pronouncements and stands, the mobs, who have a mindof their own, will take the law into their own hands and destroy the missionary terrorists. By the bye, you say you are Chettiar, giving impression you are Hindu. And I am Paul Krist, an ex convert, back to Hindu fold. My father was cheated, why should I continue like him.

Convert back and forth-that is your freedom by Rajesh on 06 Jan 2009

Paul Krist (whatever animal that is), I would also like to convert to Hiduism. Will you pease tel me what should I believe to do that?!!! You have all the freedom to convert back and forth-only Christias allow such freedom- no other religion. It is also the fundamental right of all men. So, u become a Hindu or whatever, but, if u r making a public cry about it, also tell us what is the belienf system that we should also understand. Your words about Christians who educated tribal peope like you show your character.

PErsection of Kashmir Pundits and Kandharmal to be put on same balance and considered by MMK Rao on 06 Jan 2009

I wrote so much on the captioned reply to your satement, SC's say not enough, etc. What happened to that I dont know. I just want you to note that Kandharmal was totally unwarranted but because of fruadulent unbridled and fraudulent Christian missionary conversion activities misusing Constitutional rights of religious expression. Mob has a mind of its own, and resspect and pride of its own in its ancient culture, they are not religious waiting to be converted, which is contradicted by rascal missionaries.

Lakhs of Kashmiri Pundits not just persecuted but massacred or expelled ! by MMK Rao on 06 Jan 2009

Dear friend Anitha, persecution, cruelty and other violences on communities, minorities, individuals, is in the same basket of injustice which the courts must attend. As for minorities, the courts - and the politicians - should treat them alike whether they are Hindu, Muslim, or Christian minorities. But the truth is that i Kashmir, millions of Kashmiri pundits were driven away or butchered mercilessly by the Muslim majorities. And till date, this injustice has not been done by the courts or the government. As for Kandharmal, or Karnataka, or anywhere else in India, the socalled persecution of Christians was just a mob reaction to unbridled and deceitful conversion activities which were illegally and fraudulently carried on by '000s of missionaries. The mobs too have a mind, love of their native culture and religion. The missionaaries keep trying to defend their frauds saying the tribals are NOT Hindus but people without religion. This is the kind of thing which bore fruit for them in South Korea which is now robbed of its Buddhist culture and Christianity planted. THIS SHALL NOT BE PERMISSIBLE IN INDIA. If you are really a 'Chettiar', not a convert, I am sure you will follow and appreciate what I wrote.

Nun's rape by Navneetin on 06 Jan 2009

SC should also have the guts to say that forced conversion should be stopped. The Nun lied to the media that she was gang raped and it brought shame to our country in the whole world and when the damage is done she changed the statement. Such traitors should be punished. The UPA Govt. gave 40,000crores of tax payers money towards minority students scholarship and In Kerala now every Muslim Millionair's children are enjoyoing this. Is this Secularisam? Is there any accountability to these spendings towards Vote bank policies? We Tax payers have the right to know about such criminal watse of hard earned money. What happened to the massacre of 40 people in Assam? Is a Nun's volunteer rape is more important than 40 Lives?

Unfair Judicial system by Chinnamasta on 06 Jan 2009

Atleast those puny judges who are sitting in ivory towers should shed some crocodile tears for the death of Hindu preacher who was butchered by Church authorities with the help of Christian Maoists to show their semblence of fairness. Judges should realize that it is not persecution and it is retaliation against slow and irresponsible judicial system. Why these judges have not raised their voice against the killing of Hindu leaders. Judges need introspection. Otherwise nobody is going to take them seriously. It looks certain judicial officers would like to balm the itching asses of pseudo secular press.

selective amnesia by kumar on 06 Jan 2009

The NHRC NMC is active only when the sufferers are non-Hindus,namely Christians and Muslims. But when it’s a case of Hindus being the minority community, their sufferings are totally ignored.Take the case of Hindu Reangs of Mizoram: they have been driven out of the state since they refuse to embrace Christianity. The NMC has never bothered to visit the camps of these 30,000 unfortunate Reangs in Tripura. Nor has it bothered to look into the pathetic living conditions of Kashmiri Pandits, either in Jammu or elsewhere.Hindus, as a minority community, cannot celebrate Durga Puja in southern Tripura, Meghalaya and other Christian majority states of the east. Does the Constitution define minorities as only non-Hindus? Now, when some churches have been attacked in and around Mangalore, they have rushed in, which has ultimately resulted in the Central Government issuing a warning to the Karnataka government

when majority is reduced to minority ... by MMK Rao on 06 Jan 2009

Indians, esply. the youth becoming effeminate fast by its craving for Bollywood and vulgar serials and sex chats, all following the degenerate West, must understand the need to concentrate on self-discipline and a bit of regular meditation to develop a long term outlook and appreciation of our heritage. Without this self-control no nation can develop that necessary keen perception necessary to defend itself and the posterity. The prevailing trend does not give hope that the majority can see through the long term objectives of the minority, namely to destroy the majority in its core. India is the centre stage of the world for wisdom and spirituality without which mankind given to sensual pursuits will perish. The democraic principle adores the protection of minorities but certainly not the destruction of the majority by them (minorities). The judiciary must understand this rudiment and change its ways. But judiciary being from the basic stock of people, its quality will not improve unless the majority as a whole cultivates high levels of self-discipline to develop a long term outlook.

What about the Minority Hindus in Kashmir and North eastern region. Let the SC ask the govts. to resign and do the same to Orissa. Why did SC keep quiet when Tamils were attacked in Bangalore? It is very sad that our Indian systems are getting degraded one by one.

Secular India in a better perspective by MMK Rao on 06 Jan 2009

Dear friend Anvar, Your statement is true but only partially. At the bottom, Indian psyche is Hindu even if Islam was thrust down the throat by force and Christianity began to be pushed artificially to exploit poverty misusing Constitutional religious rights of expression for conversion.MUSLIM AND CHRISTIAN FRIENDS MUST APPRECIATE THAT THEY ARE A WIE BETTER THAN THEIR COUNTERPARTS OUTSIDE INDIA only because of the immemorial Hindu (Vedic) wisdom that has seeped into their blood stream which is after all Indian, not connected with Allah or Jesus who came artificially. Pls.consider this point dispassionately. If you do, you will appreciate better the fact that we are better people as Indians, who welcome other religions and other ideas even if they are alien, and that we are secular ONLY in that sense.

Kashmiri Pandits.... by Rajesh on 05 Jan 2009
