Panchkula, March 4 Ward number 2 (Area) Mansa Devi Complex, Sector 5 and Swastik Vihar

Category- Women reserved

Overall rating - 9/10

Be it the fencing across the railway line passing through the ward or the concretisation of the seasonal drain, the residents of this ward are a satisfied lot. Though certain developmental works are pending, the amount of work done by the councillor including getting traffic lights installed at the Mansa Devi T point which has been a killer stretch since long, could give the winning points to Renuka Rai Walia in the ensuing Municipal Council elections.

Complaints and expectations of residents

Seema Malik, a resident of the ward said, “Ours’ is probably the best ward when it comes to various developmental works initiated by the councillor. The most important of all these was the relief to thousands of residents from the provision of Appartments’ Act and the fencing of the entire railway line. Though there are certain works that need immediate attention like the poor condition of roads outside Swastik Vihar market, the councillor stands a good chance to come to power again.” Malik added that efforts should be made for a sanctioned bus stand for the ward.

Amritlal Verma, another resident of the area said, “While we are satisfied with the overall development, the stray dog menace in the ward has literally put the lives of the residents of the ward in danger. These dogs chase every vehicle that passes through the area and pose a threat to children here.”

He, however, expressed satisfaction with the condition of roads and sanitation of the ward. “The Bhainsa Tibba drain was home to other stray animals but with concretisation and area around it cleared, the problem has been addressed to a great extent,” Verma added.

For Meena Nagpal, another resident of the ward, the road outside the sector market needs immediate attention. “Though we understand that the ongoing construction work of showrooms could be the reason behind the problem, something must be done about it immediately. Also, the authority should sanction a bus service for the sector,” Nagpal said.

Councillorspeak

Talking to Newsline, councillor Renuka Rai Walia said, “After we received several complaints from the ward residents, the entire railway track passing through various societies was fenced. Also, beside a boosting station for the MDC, another major work was the concretisation of the seasonal Bhainsa Tibba drain.” She further added that also due to the increasing number of fatal accidents at the MDC T point, authorities was persuaded for new traffic lights resulting in a fall in the number of accidents.

As for the Gandhi Colony under the ward, regular ration cards and electricity connections have been provided to households. “Another major achievement was getting relief for thousands of flat owners from the provisions of Apartments’ Act by persuading the HUDA for the same. If brought to power again in the MC elections, I would like to complete the pending works, including the overall development of Swastik Vihar and a direct bus service from the ward to Chandigarh,” Walia said.
