Mumbai, November 14: Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir has said maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the state government and outsiders have no reason to interfere in the internal matters of the state and have no right to defame Maharashtra.

Jamir's statement came during an interaction with a delegation led by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, which met him to express their views on the violence against north Indians.

"Maharashtra is the cradle of Indian nationalism and is one of the most progressive states in the country," a Raj Bhawan spokesperson quoted Jamir as telling the delegation at Raj Bhawan on November 12.

Jamir's statement assumes significance in the backdrop of campaign by north Indian leaders following MNS-led violence against north Indians which included killing of a Bihari youth in a Mumbai bus and lynching of a UP worker in a train.

Governor's comment came after Deshmukh told him that Maharashtra is known for its great tradition of tolerance, progressive reforms and cosmopolitan culture.

It is unfortunate that efforts have been made in the last few weeks by leaders of some states to create a wrong impression regarding Maharashtra, the Chief Minister told the Governor.

Jamir assured the delegation that he would convey their sentiments to the President and the Prime Minister.

The delegation included Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, state Congress chief Manikrao Thakre, Irrigation Minister Ajit Pawar, PWP leader Ganpatrao Deshmukh, JD (S) leader Mrinal Gore, city Congress chief Kripashankar Singh, city NCP chief Sachin Ahir and RPI (Gavai) leader Sandeep Gavai. The Shiv Sena and BJP did not join the delegation.

Maharashtra - a part of INDIA by A.NATARAJAN on 15 Nov 2008

Who is an outsider according to the Maharashtra Governor. Any Indian has the right to move around to any parts of the country for his livelihood. When certain things happen endangering to that right, others would naturally rise up to the occasion and demand from the authorities to protect the interests of such affected Indians. If Maharashtrians are going to take such stiff stand, it will endanger the peace in other states, which will start doing things detrimental to the interests of people originating from other States. After all the whole India belongs to the Indians and Maharashtra, being a part of India, they cannot dictate terms to other people, who belong to other states. Since big business houses are located in Mumbai, many people have to move there frequently and live in Maharashtra, for their livelihood. It is for the Government to ensure the safety and security of their lives and properties.

Clean up your own state first by Imran Khan on 16 Nov 2008

Where is India? by sampath krishnan on 01 Dec 2008

Hey guys, People like imran is the real cause of subdividing india. DO not try to divide people. I am from tamil nadu living in UK. I feel indian first and the last. every indian has the right to speak for the nation and about the nation. Only i know how my heart was in pain when i was watching what happened in mumbai. It is an emotion, dont criticize and make it cheap.

IMRAN's half baked comments by N.RAAJ KOUSHIK on 17 Nov 2008

First of all Mr Imran has not understood the the topic vis-a-vis the comment sent by Mr Natarajan. He has reacted for the sake of seeing his name in the electronic media. He has no business to draw parallels about Tamil Nadu. Is Tamil Nadu politicians talk about other State People as 'outsiders'? Let him be specific. If he doesn't understand the topic, let Mr Imran solicit the help of somebody atleast to know the real meaning of topics/comments.

Mr Imran to understand by A.NATARAJAN on 17 Nov 2008

Mr Imran please understand my views in toto before reacting on it. I commented on the present days' state in Maharashtra and the statements made by people. If anything like that is there in Tamilnadu, please be specific instead of making a sweeping remark and reacting in an irresponsible way.

Governors Statement unwarranted by Prakash Krishnagiri on 14 Nov 2008

As the Governor gone insane. When Fellow Indians are being tortured in Maharashtra how can you say the other Indians in other parts of India should not worry or raise concern about it. May be the Governor should read the Indian Constitution first or else just quit instead of making such statements which is totally against the interest of the Nation. It is purely in the interest of Maharashtra. Is he also playing in to the local politics? What is happening to our democracy and free of speech.(Just for the readers. I am a Maharashtrian living in South India)

Really? by Indian on 14 Nov 2008

You are a Maharashtrian !! Really? By the way if people were really being tortured in Maharashtra, nobody would have been able to file these shitty news reports sitting right in the heart of Mumbai. And mind you, those trains coming from North India full of poor migrants have not stopped yet !! What does that tell you? The truth is North Indians are still safer in Maharashtra that they are in their own states. Sadly people ae believing the wrong picture media is creating.

Reply to Really? by Prakash Krishnagiri on 14 Nov 2008

People who keep coming beleive that India is for everyone and with a hope that they will not be discreminated. If you claim that people are believing the wrong picture the media is creating, what is your excuse for the footages that were shown on the TVs. Were they cooked too by the media?? Accept the fact that few political parties rake up this issue to get political mileage.

Reply to "Really?" by Dhruv on 14 Nov 2008

Well, what has the comment to which you have replied anything to do with being or not being a Maharashtrian? When will people like you rise from their petty and narrow thinking? I wonder that people like you are also responsible for weakening the integrity of our nation. "North Indians" "their own states", these phrases indicate that how low you think! Common, please understand we all are Indians! (P.S. Just for your information- I am also a Maharastrian, but I am an Indian first, unlike you. Now don't say that I'm not a true Maharashtrian.)

Reply to Dhruv by Prakash Krishnagiri on 14 Nov 2008

My name sounding more from the South of India, I dont want some readers to bring yet another divide. That is why I mentioned that I am a Maharashtrian. Nothing else intended. I never gave primary importance to the Lingo or the origin of the state from where my family hail from, Indian is my identity always. Thanks for bringing to my notice the flaw in which i tried to express my opinion.

Indians by geenalas on 14 Nov 2008

Please note, India belongs to all Indians. All states in India together form India, North Indians South Indians, West Indians, East Indians are all one and the same. I am in the US and still Indian and I have every right in the universal to complain against or pray for Maharastra, no one in this universe can stop me as long as I am not doing anything illegal.Even in Maharastra about 80% are poor. Not all maharastrians are rich. India is still a poor country so all Indians are poor even though relatively some might have more riches thans others, but agregrate is still poor.
