Mumbai In a major crackdown, city police have arrested over 1,200 Shiv Sainiks ahead of the release of Shah Rukh-Kajol starer 'My Name Is Khan' after the party stepped up its protest against the film over the actor's IPL remarks. The 63 theatres across the city that would screen Karan Johan directed 'My Name...' have turned into fortresses with heavy deployment of police.

“In the last 24 hours, over 1,200 Shiv Sainiks have been arrested. While 955 were arrested under the preventive action, the rest were put behind bars for different cases, including for protesting outside the theatres, vandalizing screens among others”, said Ramesh Bagwe, Minister of State for Home said. The sena activists, including office bearers, were charged with rioting, damaging property, unlawful assembly and trespassing, police said. Some people roaming near Broadway cinema at suburban Borivali today were picked up on suspicion that they might cause trouble.

The Sena had threatened to stall the screening of the film, protesting Khan's support for inclusion of Pakistani players in the upcoming IPL but party supreme Bal Thackeray had later said that the film's release will not be disrupted. City police chief Sivanandan has issued guidelines to all the police stations regarding security arrangements. The constables deployed at cinema halls have been told to frisk every ticket-holder and check their bags. However, it is not mandatory for the viewers to show identity cards.

Single-screen cinemas will be manned by a police sub-inspector, one constable, two women police constables and 5 plainclothes policemen. In the wake of the Sena intensifying protests against Khan, leaves of the city policemen have been cancelled. Yesterday, screens of Metro theatre in south Mumbai and Huma Cinema at Kanjurmarg were ripped off with sharp instruments like blade by the Sena workers who entered the halls as regular viewers by buying tickets, police said.

To further strengthen security, personnel from State Reserve Police Force and Home Guards will be deployed at thetheatres across the city where the movie is scheduled to be released on February 12, they said. Karan Johar, director and co-producer of 'My Name is Khan' yesterday met Police Commissioner D Sivanandhan to discuss security issues ahead of the movie's release.

Meanwhile, a very tight security cordon had been thrown around actors Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and director Karan Johar as they left together from Mumbai airport for Abu Dhabi to be present at the special premiere of the film being held there.

Politics of hatred by Rajan on 13 Feb 2010

Maharashtra is a state of armies (I mean sena). A new sena was formed recently with its name Maharashtra Sarvanash Sena. Its agenda is as under. 1. No Maharashtrian will be allowed to work outside Maharashtra and Non Maharashtrian to work inside the state. 2. We will use the product only produced in Maharashtra and eat only the items produced here. Similarly we will block the supply of our products to other states. In this fashion we will complete the Sarvanash of this state. Thus we will truly represent our name. Other senas will be defeated in every field.

CLEAN UP SHIV SENA'S 'HATE' POLITICS by ann john kurien on 12 Feb 2010

Reacting to Shiv Sena's fervent chants to boycott MNIK, I feel its really unfair because MNIK is not just about SRK but has hundreds of other people as crew and their survival would depend on how this movie fares at the box office . And then , there's no doubt that SRK is a great actor and its childish equating his comments and his profession. Wake up India! Stand up , be counted and clean up the 'hate' politics!!!!!!!!

Unless otherwise these things of Cost factors are informed to Public, Then the Damaging the democracy is perfect -from the POLICE POWER?

Why have to Shahrukh khan always do something for publicity? Well people died on 26/11, also srilankans were attacked and why do we care to give them a chance to play in IPL? Where in it is doubtfull , that Pakistan will play World cup. Pakistan should hand all the terrorist and we shall allow them to play in IPL. If you are supporting the statement of pakistan to play in IPL is like you are saying that you forgive them. Whole world knows , pakistan was behind the attack , yet no one from their country had the guts to stand and follow the path of honesty.. When Sri lankans were attacked Pakistan players were aware of the attack, so they reached the spot one hour late the time being scheduled. SO use brains , shahrukh khan is not supportive or something , it is just like he has spent some money to buy those players and now he wants them to play for him in return ... Jai Hind Jai Maharastra

Lets see whos who SRK: Famous actor, who makes lot of money. But am not sure about his social or poltical contributions Sharad Pawar: Man with lot of power in politics and criket. Apparently, He cares more about IPL (a private game tournament, to make money for its organisers and owners) than agriculture (oh He is also Minsiter) and food inflation which is affecting everybody. Shiv Sena/MNS: Poltical parties whos base and whole agend ais based on hatred not of Pakistan but thier own fellow citizen from other states. Though in disguise they might have done some very good things (that I wish we can copy all over India somehow!) like creating sense of pride, selfrespect and fearlessness (from govt agencies like police) among common people Congress: Party who has not done much good of the country while in power for decades after independence and though I hoped/thought it has changed but I guess they will never leave Muslim appeasement in the name of secularism or perhaps votes.

Double standards by Indian on 11 Feb 2010

The PM had the audacity to say that Muslims should have the first claim on our resources, which is a violation of our constitution which speaks of equality of all.I'm not justifying what MNS & SS did but the point is why dont the same voice which raise against MNS/SS are dumb spectators of Congress corrupt rule?

Sub:Mumbai problem Shivsena has committed a blunder in saying Mumbai is for Maharastrians only instead of saying Mumbai is overcrowded and no accomodation for more people from Bihar and UP for getting employment. Rahul Gandhi and others who only visit as VIPs with all facilities at people's cost do not know the problems of water shortgae, congestion, health care problems etc have taken as a prestige issue by saying Mumbai is for all and created problems. But the same VIPs have not bothered to question politicians of UP and Bihar why they have not developed inspite of better facilities. Actually this is the fact for refusing flood of people from UP and Bihar B S GANESH,

Dear online editor, let us also have some introspection before slamming Shiv Sena as goondas. First, govt provoked unnecessarily by suppressing their democratic right of peaceful protests. What was wrong in waving of black flags? We must understand the marathis are very proud people having a very proud history. Let us remember their struggle against british and mughals. They have almost total contribution to the freedom of India. It is not that they are against all north Indians as such. They have a genuine problem of mass migration and threat to cultural identity. Uddahav has dared to return the security. Tell me honestly, kasab, afjal, guru, and other thousands of terrorists, kashmiri terrorists etc are being provided with security and people who just want to protest are suppressed. Is this democracy? What is wrong if SRK offers his apology? Is this nation means nothing for SRK? I bet if govt keeps on suppressing them, it will be very very counterproductive.

MNIK by Priyanka on 11 Feb 2010

The MNS and ShivSena protests don't make any sense (as usual) and it has nothing to do with the marathis proud history..If they have "democratic rights" then even shahrukh has freedom of expression of thoughts,so why should he apologize for expressing his thoughts/views ?

Thug Sena by Priya on 11 Feb 2010

I dont understand why Thug Sena is hell bent on making a big issue with a film actor who has no role in deciding/making a national policy. PC Chidambran said something on the same lines as Shah Rukh Khan and Thug Sena did not react so vocally against the minister. All this hoopla is for making national headlines and bullying the common man. Why doesnt the Thug Sena and the Thackrays and their kids join the Indian army to show their patriotic feelings. Let them die fighting for India in J&K areas bordering China.

Shiv Sena by Sharon Newell on 11 Feb 2010

Please stop this non-sense by P Arun S on 11 Feb 2010

Shivsena is obsolete in modern India and will be wiped out of Indian political sphere in few years time for reasons cited as below. Now every marathi/madrasi/bengali as compared to 1960s, is more INDIAN and less marathi/madrasi/bengali etc than ever. We in actual fact are more global than ever.We are pleural democratic society and that makes us distinct from other countries. Shivsena ever since its inception has exploited differences and disputes amongst the Indians. This trick works for few years but eventually the issues facing the common denominator of the society needs to be addressed to rise as peoples party. Shiv sena probably is more of cultural facist party and may win local/regional elections but has never rose to national challenges. Please stop opposing SRK movie. Let the artist/players from other countries visit us to enrich us. Equally it is important that Northern cultural onsalught on Marathi and other regions should not provide fuel to burning pyre for regional parties.

SRK please help me understand what you said "Pakistan is the best neigbhour in the world " What does that mean ? Also you are saying sports/arts should not be be mixed with politics/religion den tell me please why 1. Pakistan boycotted 1980 olympics in Moscow ? 2. Why Pakistan refused to play a Test match( It was turned into an ODI) in Ahmedabad to show solidarity with so called victims of Gujrat riots ? 3. Why Pakistan team used to carry religion on its sleeve till sometime back. Shoib Malik even went to an extent of apologising to all the muslims of the world after loosing to India in finals of first T20 World cup !!! I do not support Shiv Sena at all but I have developed serious doubts about future of my country. Your religion is responsible for division of my country 6 decades back and now putting lot of strain on secular fabric. You were so economical with words to condemn 26/11 attacks.Religion is big thing you know it Hindus have to know.

Lets think out of the box Part - 3 by Aar on 11 Feb 2010

Talking of Shiv Sena, they would hog limelight come what may. Since the party's birth came under transit of Mars and Uranus, lot many people would condemn them but they will keep the hold as party's under influence of powerful mercury which touches the heart of poor and needy. As far as Indian public goes, nothing on earth can save them from complete stupidity. But as they all govern by lack of commonsense and having been highly influenced by films, cricketers, public would continue showing their irresponsible attitude through media. We all have to wait 4-5 days more, or to be precise we will have to live with such headlines till by the blessing of God, we will find something else that takes away our focus. Only hope is that, next item would be bit more interesting. Hopefully, Indian cricketers would do something drastically that takes way the focus. So again we are back to square on, relying on cricket because film stars and politicians are involved in this issue altogether.

Lets think out of the box Part - 2 by Aar on 11 Feb 2010

Again Congress involvement into it for a reason that doesn't make any logical sense has been due to triangle aspect of Gemini, that is why nobody from the party came out with a convincing statement. If my prediction are bound to be right than Shahrukh Khan would sneeze three time during his visit to Abu Dhabi for his movie premiere.. On top of that Shahruks Khans chart is having affect of Venus which shows that he would encounter lots of his subordinate. He has to be careful here cuz he will be praised regardless what he says or does. Not to forget he has tilting nose towards the west-south that represents him as having mass follower, especially people who consider English is their main language even if its not the case by any means.

Calculated Risk by Congress by Vivek on 11 Feb 2010

I think it is the calculated risk that congress has taken as shrewed political party. In one hand, using their money power to arrange this much crowd in the name ok Shivsena (could well be MNS if Mr. Pawar calls Raj) and on the other hand they are showing all Muslims in India that their party is the only one to help them from so called Hindu extremists in the country and to prove that there is such exremism here. Bal Thakerey said the same thing about Aamir Khan but since his movie was already released by the time and the title roles did not have any Muslim characters in it, the Congress did not say anything like "we will ensure the smooth release of the movie" and all, what they said for MNIK. I will not be wondered if after 30 years it is questioned that why SRK and/or Karan Johar took money from a perticular producer to fund the movie and arrange the movie's release to be in the month of elections in India in 2010. COngress can do anything to dupe inocent Muslims to get votes

Crazy movie by saffron secularist on 11 Feb 2010

Sir/Madam - This is only a movie and once again appeasement is shown towards the Muslim community who in the main dont need this nonsense especially when they have made their lives in the West. The use or inference of Aspergers Syndrome is a strange one indeed in this film. What did Karan Johar have in mind to allow Mandira (HINDOO)to marry a man (MUSLIM) with such a syndrome? I think it is mischief making of the highest order. We Indians are very careful about such issues. Mandira, maybe, was perhaps lacking in thought - is what we can safely deduce. I am thinking that there is more to this than meets the eyes. Well done Karan Johar for being so between the lines.... Sad story and justification for a Muslim to explain to the world their actions. I will see the film and deduce if my gut instinct about it has been the case. Let us all reflect on this glossy nonsense and Islamic perspective on terrorism Bollywood style. Jai Bharathmata!

interesting yet so foolish by atom on 12 Feb 2010

I would have called it idiotic, but then reading between the lines and to claim that my religion and its people are being humiliated is what so called saffrons are expertise on.

What do you see in mirror? by Proud of not being Indian anymore. on 11 Feb 2010

Im born Indian but proud of not being in India for many many moons. Every single day, India or Indians do something that makes me proud about the decision of leaving India for good. It used to upset me initially when I was being called Asian but now I like being called Asian rather than Indian. Seriously, what else Indian do besides talking of movie-cricket-politics? Even when the tragic events take place, we all talk and talk. So its all talk and not walk, I wonder if it ever would be a walk at all? BY the way what are you complaining or whinging about guys? Are you not the people who have elected these leaders? So when you point finger at something or someone, remember the rest of fingers are towards you.

There is no freedom of speech in India by James Bond on 11 Feb 2010

1200 people in one town are saying one thing, SRK's name is Khan and are protesting inclusion of pakistani players at cost of Bengali players, when entire India knows that pakistan harbors terrorists, has fought three wars, occupies Kashmir and provides moral support to muslim brothers in India. If Chavhan saab, Rahul baba and Sonia tai has problem with it, they are not with Indians and on pakistani side. They are with terrorists and so they rightfully proclaimed, "war is not a solution" after 26/11. What part is not clear to kafirs of India? Afterall India is a sickuliar country.

Who is a good neighbour? by AP on 11 Feb 2010

When 26/11 happened and it was proved that all the terrorists were from pakistan, the govt of Pakistan denied it. They blamed India for wrong conclusion. They said they are not Pakistani citizens. Instead of taking a stand and action against these people they continued the claims even when Kasab's mother appeared in media. They continued the same story even when DNA evidence was sent to them. They even blamed India for sending not enough information or DNA samples. They denied to accept/receive/burry the dead bodies of these terrorists. Only recently they accepted that all the terrorists in 26/11 were from pakistan and were trained in pakistan. So how some famous public figure like SRK can say that they are our good neighbours? Godd neighbour would have at least apologized . Anybody heard that pakistan govt has said 'Sorry' for all the above. Public Definitely deserves a proper explanation, who exactly can be called as a good neighbour?.

Wake up.. by Truth on 11 Feb 2010

SRK & sections of Media are following instructions from their masters across the border. PIL should be filed against SRK and sections of the media for inciting communal and religious division, disharmony and violence.......And look at Congress in the name of "minority appeasement" it is by proxy equating Indian muslim with pro-pakistani image....It is high time that the nationalist from Muslim community come out and stop this disservice being done to their community by these vested interests especially Congress!!! Do not let the Congress, sections of media and the Islamists destroy the Hindu-Muslim peace and harmony....

Good, it is more important to save Muslim movie made by gay Karan than Mumbai public from Kasab by Chacha Joaher Lull Nulloo on 11 Feb 2010

Good, it is more important to save Muslim movie made by gay Karan than Mumbai public. Khan is surely more precious than the commuters at CST who were targetted by Kasab. May God and ullaTala give millions of votes to Congress and Shoonya. By the way where were shivsainiks when CST was being targetted?

"SRK you are a proud Indian and a realtime HERO". Talking about this so called MR.Thackery..he cant be Indian, must be from some another planet. No true Indian will talk and speak the way he does and yet we all tolerate him.WHY ? WHY ? why do we tolerate people like him. High time Government of India must do something to stop people like him, other wise you will see every state leaders comming out and will be making speaches, instigating fellow citizens and dividing India. Munbai is part of India and every citizen has the right to live there and anybody who has any objection should go to a lala land and creat his own country. TIME HAS COME TO KICK ASS OF PEOPLE WHO TRIES TO DIVDE INDIA.

SRK, Congress and Poor Indians by sam on 10 Feb 2010

Wy everytime SRK movie near release with dramas? It is clear that he wants to join politics in future. Gandhis always wanted divide and rule this time its SRK if Bachhans have cosied up with Thakrays. Why SRK need Pak players when IPL is supposed to be "INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE", just becoz it adds more glamour to IPL teams.. Greed is bad, and IPL greed is making ppl myopic. If SRK is right then is Shilpa wrong?? Better he does his good movies, else he would be next govinda. Congress is at it again ending all autonomous institutions, dictating media. Nations' media so obsessed with Rahul, congress and SRK that it takes almost 33% of news time? Thakrays are correct this time, and congress will pay price. Whenever they come they divide and rule. Diggi raja trying old bad tricks in UP (Azamgarh), Batla house etc. No one highlights what Rahul says in Bihar college. HAd N.Modi/Uddhav said, media wud go mad repeating again n again. May GOD save this country.
