Michael Owen

Manchester Michael Owen is at Manchester United's training ground as he moves closer to joining the Premier League champions.

The 29-year-old striker, who is out of contract at relegated Newcastle, arrived at United's Carrington training complex Friday having already undergone an assessment of his troublesome knee Thursday.

Owen is expected to have further tests at a Manchester hospital later Friday as the forward looks to resurrect his career with Alex Ferguson's side.

Owen failed to persuade England coach Fabio Capello that he has both the form and fitness to add to his 89 international caps.

But joining United could give him the chance to forge a partnership with Capello's first-choice striker, Wayne Rooney.
