Melbourne Australian Member of Parliament Teresa Gambaro who attracted criticism for her comment that migrant workers didn't know how to wear deodorant or queue politely little over a week ago, has come under renewed fire for telling immigrants to learn English if they want to stop racism in the country.

The Coalition multicultural affairs spokeswoman told The Australian that new arrivals to Australia should learn English as quickly as possible to encourage tolerance and understanding.

"I've always believed that. English is the key. It's incumbent on people to learn to speak English. If you don't learn to speak English in the early settlement years your levels will never improve and will stay that way for the rest of your life," the Courier Mail quoted her, as saying.

Gambaro's comments came after the man chosen to give the NSW Australia Day speech said racism was still alive in Australia.
