'The Daily Telegraph' showed no mercy and questioned what Koertzen was doing there.
"If Rudi Koertzen was the chief executive of a major company he would have been sacked on the spot two years ago. He was the umpire who convinced his co-umpires to misinterpret the rain rule which made a farce of the World Cup final.
Amazingly, he is still at large making major blunders which shape the results of series," the writer said.
The media in Australia was outraged after Simon Katich was caught off a no ball which umpire Billy Doctrove failed to detect while Phillip Hughes was caught by England captain Andrew Strauss, at least Koertzen believed so as the South Africa refused to refer it to the third umpire.
Doctrove subsequently ruled Mike Hussey caught out even though replay didn't show any edge.
"I can forgive Billy Doctrove - just - for failing to detect that the ball which dismissed Simon Katich was a no-ball and the fact that Mike Hussey hit the ground and not the ball when he was given out. But there was absolutely no excuse for Koertzen not to go to the third umpire to decide whether Andrew Strauss has correctly caught Phil Hughes at slip," the writer fumed.
"Darrell Hair retired in his rearly 50s because he felt it was an appropriate time for an umpire to leave the game.
Yet Koertzen, who turned 60 in March, has decided to go on until he is asked to leave. Life shouldn't work that way," the 'Daily Telegraph' writer added.
Another writer in 'The Australian' was equally harsh on the umpires.
"Cricket continues to make a fool of itself and this time umpires Rudi Koertzen and Billy Doctrove are the circus clowns," he said.
"They have proved with a series of terrible blunders on the fourth morning of second Test at Lord's that no amount of technology can improve a game if those in charge can't or won't use it," he added.
"Of the first four wickets which fell yesterday after England declared over night 521 ahead, only Ricky Ponting chopping the ball into his stumps appeared legitimately out.
"With the Hughes dismissal in particular, it was unfathomable how two experienced umpires would refuse to use the technology provided when they had used it the day before," the writer wondered.
"More technology will be introduced permanently in October when the experimental referral system becomes mandatory...Given the scattergun approach to technology in this game, it has done much to increase the exasperation of the Australians," he added.

oz media has no right to discuss about umpiring first they advice ponting to paly fair
Why Aussie's always blame the pitch conditions, umpires etc. Why don't they appreciate the winner's strength? Oz and people there in Australia, come on please, stop blaming business and learn to appreciate the opponent's strength and their techniques. Why you always blame umpire or the condition of pitch? Don't you think that your lose is your weakness? Come on have your own medicine and get into peaceful bed.
Now the shoe is on the other foot. All the preaching directed at India the last go around when the bloopers went in their Aussies' favour. Come on guys you just got a dose of your own medicine.
Aussies learnt the fourth law of Sir Isaac Newton in this test match. One day or the other - to every action, there is equal and opposite reaction. Bad bunch of loosers....Remember the underarm bowling of Chapell? remember pigeons comments? remember ponting and symonds catching the balls touching the ground? Man - aussi list is just too long!Well done England. Bash the Aussies up! You'll not get such weak Aussie teams often - so improve your records :-)
You feel only when you are hurt.
In the last Indo/Oz series in oz the umpires were consulting Ricky Ponting who lied to the umpires the whole series and escaped the series defeat through lies and deception. That was ok for oz medea but this is not fair this is what i call oz quadrible standards
Now it seems that the Australians are at the receiving end. Thank God, no Asian Umpires are involved. Else they would have spewed all their anger on them. But ofcourse, what can one expect from a Country, who as their celebrated Captain Waugh, says sledging is part of their DNA. Now their media is also following the same. When Indians complained about Steve Bucknor's mistakes, it was part of the game and that Umpires had the last word. Let us see and enjoy. All in all a very nice Test match , after all those stupid T20s.
The Oz media should then Criticize Steve Bucknor who never used technical aids whenever India was playing. Thus he gave a lot of disadvantage to India on several occassions where In dia could have walked awy with the series victories quite comfortably. He was also found to be mocking at Rahul Dravid. What more? Where was Australian media at that point of time? Australians-do not cry, bad decisions are a part of game-You are getting a taste of your own medicine - thats how you win so comfortably in Australia.because you have baised umpiring decisions- a very useful tool in your armoury.
